1And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place, and strengthened himself over Israel.
2And he put an army in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had captured.
3And YHWH was with Jehoshaphat, for he walked in the first ways of David his father, and did not seek the Baalim;
4but to the God of his father he sought, and in His commandments (mitzvot) he walked, and not according to the doings of Israel.
5And YHWH established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah gave tribute to Jehoshaphat; and he had riches and honor in abundance.
6And his heart was lifted up in the ways of YHWH; and furthermore he removed the high places and the Asherim from Judah.
7And in year three of his reign he sent to his princes, to Ben-hail and to Obadiah and to Zechariah and to Nethanel and to Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah;
8and with them the Levites: Shemaiah and Nethaniah and Zebadiah and Asahel and Shemiramoth and Jehonathan and Adonijah and Tobijah and Tob-adonijah the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram the priests.
9And they taught in Judah, and with them was the book of the Torah of YHWH; and they went around through all the cities of Judah, and taught among the people.
10And the dread of YHWH was upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, and they did not war with Jehoshaphat.
11And from the Philistines they were bringing to Jehoshaphat tribute, and silver as a burden; also the Arabians were bringing him flocks, rams seven thousand and seven hundred, and he-goats seven thousand and seven hundred.
12And Jehoshaphat went on growing greater, up to extreme high; and he built in Judah fortresses and store-cities.
13And much work he had in the cities of Judah; and men (ish) of war, mighty men of valor, in Jerusalem.
14And these are their numbering according to the house of their fathers: of Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and with him mighty men of valor three hundred thousand;
15and at his hand Jehohanan the commander, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand;
16and at his hand Amasiah son of Zichri, who volunteered himself to YHWH, and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor;
17and from Benjamin: a mighty man of valor Eliada, and with him those armed with bow and shield, two hundred thousand;
18and at his hand Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand equipped for the army.
19These are those serving the king, apart from those whom the king put in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.
