1And all the people of Judah took Uzziah, and he was a son of sixteen years, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.
2He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after the king slept with his fathers.
3A son of sixteen years was Uzziah when he became king, and fifty and two years he reigned in Jerusalem; and the name of his mother was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.
4And he did that which was right in the eyes of YHWH, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.
5And he was seeking God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the vision of God; and in the days of his seeking YHWH, God made him prosper.
6And he went forth and fought against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in Ashdod, and among the Philistines.
7And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians who dwelt in Gur-baal, and the Meunim.
8And the Ammonites gave tribute to Uzziah; and his name went as far as the entrance of Egypt, for he became exceedingly strong.
9And Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the angle, and fortified them.
10And he built towers in the wilderness, and hewed out many cisterns, for he had much livestock; and in the lowland and in the plain, husbandmen and vinedressers in the mountains and in the fruitful field; for he was a lover of the ground (adamah).
11And Uzziah had an army making war, going forth to the host by bands, by the number of their mustering by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the officer, under the hand of Hananiah, of the captains of the king.
12All the number of the heads of the fathers, of the mighty men of valor, was two thousand and six hundred.
13And under their hand was a force of an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, making war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.
14And Uzziah prepared for them, for all the host, shields and spears and helmets and coats of mail and bows and stones for slinging.
15And he made in Jerusalem devices, the device of a skillful man, to be upon the towers and upon the corners, to shoot with arrows and with great stones. And his name went forth as far as a distance, for he was marvelously helped until he was strong.
16But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to destruction; and he acted unfaithfully against YHWH his God, and went into the temple of YHWH to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
17And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him priests of YHWH, eighty sons of valor;
18and they stood against Uzziah the king, and said to him, "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to YHWH, but for the priests the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated, to burn incense; go out from the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully, and it is not for your honor from YHWH God."
19And Uzziah was furious, and in his hand was a censer to burn incense; and in his fury with the priests, the leprosy broke out in his forehead before the priests in the house of YHWH, beside the altar of incense.
20And Azariah the chief priest turned to him, and all the priests, and behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they hurried him from there; and also he himself hastened to go out, because YHWH had struck him.
21And Uzziah the king was a leper until the day of his death, and dwelt in a house of separation, a leper, for he was cut off from the house of YHWH; and Jotham his son was over the king's house, judging the people of the land.
22And the rest of the acts of Uzziah, the first and the last, Isaiah the prophet, son of Amoz, wrote.
23And Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial which belonged to the kings, for they said, "He is a leper"; and Jotham his son reigned in his place.
