1A son of twenty years was Ahaz in his reigning, and sixteen years he reigned in Jerusalem; and he did not the right in the eyes of YHWH, like David his father.
2And he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and also molten images he made for the Baals.
3And he himself burned incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burned his sons in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom YHWH dispossessed from before the sons of Israel.
4And he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places, and upon the hills, and under every leafy tree.
5And YHWH his God gave him into the hand of the king of Aram, and they struck him and took captive from him a great captivity, and brought them to Damascus. And also into the hand of the king of Israel he was given, who struck him with a great blow.
6And Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day, all of them sons of valor, because they had forsaken YHWH, the God of their fathers.
7And Zichri, a mighty one of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king's son, and Azrikam the ruler of the house, and Elkanah the second to the king.
8And the sons of Israel took captive from their brothers two hundred thousand women (ishah), sons, and daughters; and also much spoil they plundered from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.
9And there was there a prophet of YHWH, Oded his name, and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said to them: "Behold, in the wrath of YHWH, the God of your fathers, against Judah, He gave them into your hand, and you have slain among them in a rage that has reached up to the heavens.
10And now, the sons of Judah and Jerusalem you are saying to subdue for male servants and for female servants to yourselves; but are there not, even with you yourselves, guilts against YHWH your God?
11And now, hear me, and return the captives whom you have taken captive from your brothers, for the fierce anger of YHWH is upon you."
12And men (ish) from the heads of the sons of Ephraim rose up — Azariah the son of Jehohanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai — against those who came from the war,
13and said to them: "You shall not bring the captives here, for to a guilt against YHWH upon us you are saying, to add to our sins and to our guilt; for great is the guilt to us, and fierce anger is upon Israel."
14And the armed one left the captives and the plunder before the princes and all the assembly.
15And the men (ish) who were designated by names rose up and took hold of the captives, and all their naked ones they clothed from the spoil; and they clothed them and shod them and fed them and gave them drink and anointed them, and led them on donkeys, every stumbling one, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, beside their brothers; and they returned to Samaria.
16At that time king Ahaz sent to the kings of Assyria to help him.
17And again the Edomites came and struck in Judah, and took captive a captivity.
18And the Philistines spread out into the cities of the lowland and the Negev of Judah, and captured Beth-shemesh, and Aijalon, and Gederoth, and Soco and its daughter-towns, and Timnah and its daughter-towns, and Gimzo and its daughter-towns; and they dwelt there.
19For YHWH humbled Judah because of Ahaz king of Israel, for he had let loose unrestraint in Judah, and acting treacherously he was treacherous against YHWH.
20And Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came against him, and distressed him, and did not strengthen him.
21For Ahaz took a portion from the house of YHWH and the house of the king and the princes, and gave to the king of Assyria; but it was no help to him.
22And in the time of his distress, he added to act treacherously against YHWH — this same king Ahaz.
23And he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus who struck him, and he said: "Because the gods of the kings of Aram are helping them, to them I will sacrifice, that they may help me." But they were to him for a stumbling, and to all Israel.
24And Ahaz gathered the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut the doors of the house of YHWH, and made for himself altars in every corner in Jerusalem.
25And in every city and city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and he provoked YHWH, the God of his fathers.
26And the rest of his words, and all his ways, the first and the last, behold, they are written upon the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
27And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, in Jerusalem, for they did not bring him to the graves of the kings of Israel; and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.
