1In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel, Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah reigned.
2A son of twenty and five years was he when he reigned, and twenty and nine years he reigned in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Jehoaddan from Jerusalem.
3And he did the upright in the eyes of YHWH, only not like David his father; according to all that Joash his father did, he did.
4Only the high places were not removed; still the people were sacrificing and offering incense in the high places.
5And it came to pass, when the kingdom was strong in his hand, that he struck his servants who had struck the king his father.
6But the sons of the strikers he did not put to death; according to that which is written in the book of the Torah of Moses, which YHWH commanded (tzivvah), saying, "Fathers shall not be put to death for sons, and sons shall not be put to death for fathers; but each man (ish) for his own sin shall be put to death."
7He struck Edom in the Valley of Salt, ten thousand, and seized Sela in the war, and called its name Joktheel, to this day.
8Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us look one another in the face."
9And Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, "The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son for a wife (ishah)'; and a living thing (chai) of the field that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.
10You have indeed struck Edom, and your heart has lifted you up. Be honored, and stay in your house; for why should you provoke yourself with evil, that you should fall, you and Judah with you?"
11But Amaziah did not listen; and Jehoash king of Israel went up, and they looked one another in the face, he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh which belongs to Judah.
12And Judah was struck before Israel, and they fled, each man (ish) to his tents.
13And Amaziah king of Judah, son of Jehoash son of Ahaziah, Jehoash king of Israel seized at Beth-shemesh; and he came to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem at the gate of Ephraim as far as the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
14And he took all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of YHWH and in the treasuries of the house of the king, and the sons of the hostages, and returned to Samaria.
15And the rest of the words of Jehoash that he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written on the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
16And Jehoash slept with his fathers and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.
17And Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.
18And the rest of the words of Amaziah, are they not written on the book of the words of the days of the kings of Judah?
19And they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish; and they sent after him to Lachish and put him to death there.
20And they carried him on the horses, and he was buried in Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.
21And all the people of Judah took Azariah—and he was a son of sixteen years—and made him king in the stead of his father Amaziah.
22He built Elath and restored it to Judah, after the king slept with his fathers.
23In the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah, Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel reigned in Samaria forty and one years.
24And he did the evil in the eyes of YHWH; he did not turn aside from all the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
25He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath to the sea of the Arabah, according to the word of YHWH, the God of Israel, which He spoke by the hand of His servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet, who was from Gath-hepher.
26For YHWH saw the affliction of Israel, very bitter; and there was none shut up and none left, and there was no helper for Israel.
27And YHWH had not said that He would blot out the name of Israel from under the heavens; and He saved (yasha) them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Joash.
28And the rest of the words of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he fought, and how he restored Damascus and Hamath to Judah in Israel, are they not written on the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
29And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son reigned in his stead.
