1In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz son of Jotham king of Judah reigned.
2Twenty years old was Ahaz when he reigned, and sixteen years he reigned in Jerusalem; and he did not the right in the eyes of YHWH his God, like David his father.
3And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and even his son he passed through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom YHWH dispossessed from before the sons of Israel.
4And he sacrificed and offered incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.
5Then Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel went up to Jerusalem for war; and they besieged Ahaz, but were not able to fight.
6At that time Rezin king of Aram restored Elath to Aram, and drove the Jews out from Elath; and Edomites came to Elath, and dwelt there to this day.
7And Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying: "Your servant and your son am I; come up, and save me (yasha) from the palm of the king of Aram, and from the palm of the king of Israel, who rise up against me."
8And Ahaz took the silver and the gold found in the house of YHWH and in the treasuries of the king's house, and sent to the king of Assyria a bribe.
9And the king of Assyria listened to him; and the king of Assyria went up against Damascus and seized it, and exiled it to Kir, and Rezin he put to death.
10And king Ahaz went to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, to Damascus, and saw the altar that was in Damascus; and king Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the likeness of the altar and its pattern, according to all its workmanship.
11And Urijah the priest built the altar; according to all that king Ahaz had sent from Damascus, so did Urijah the priest make, until the coming of king Ahaz from Damascus.
12And the king came from Damascus, and the king saw the altar; and the king drew near to the altar and offered upon it.
13And he offered his burnt offering and his grain offering, and poured his drink offering, and dashed the blood of his peace offerings upon the altar.
14And the bronze altar that was before YHWH he brought near from the front of the house, from between the altar and the house of YHWH, and put it on the side of the altar northward.
15And king Ahaz commanded (tzivvah) Urijah the priest, saying: "Upon the great altar offer the morning burnt offering and the evening grain offering, and the king's burnt offering and his grain offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land and their grain offering and their drink offerings; and all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice you shall dash upon it; but the bronze altar shall be for me to inquire by."
16And Urijah the priest did according to all that king Ahaz commanded (tzivvah).
17And king Ahaz cut off the panels of the bases, and removed from upon them the laver; and the sea he brought down from upon the bronze oxen that were under it, and put it upon a pavement of stones.
18And the covering of the Shabbat that they had built in the house, and the outer entrance of the king, he turned about in the house of YHWH, because of the king of Assyria.
19And the rest of the matters of Ahaz which he did, are they not written upon the book of the matters of the days for the kings of Judah?
20And Ahaz lay with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.
