1And David passed a little beyond the top, and behold, Ziba, the servant of Mephibosheth, to meet him, with a pair of saddled donkeys, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and a hundred clusters of raisins, and a hundred of summer fruit, and a skin of wine.
2And the king said to Ziba, "What are these to you?" And Ziba said, "The donkeys are for the king's house to ride on, and the bread and the summer fruit for the young men to eat, and the wine for the faint in the wilderness to drink."
3And the king said, "And where is your master's son?" And Ziba said to the king, "Behold, he abides in Jerusalem, for he said, Today the house of Israel will restore to me the kingdom of my father."
4Then the king said to Ziba, "Behold, yours is all that belongs to Mephibosheth." And Ziba said, "I bow down; let me find favor in your eyes, my lord the king."
5And king David came to Bahurim, and behold, from there a man (ish) coming out, from the family of the house of Saul, and his name was Shimei, son of Gera, coming out and continually cursing as he came.
6And he cast stones at David and at all the servants of king David; and all the people and all the mighty men were at his right and at his left.
7And thus said Shimei in his cursing, "Go out, go out, man (ish) of blood, and man (ish) of belial!
8YHWH has returned upon you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned; and YHWH has given the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son. And behold, you are in your evil, for you are a man (ish) of blood."
9And Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, "Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me pass over, I pray, and take off his head."
10And the king said, "What have I to do with you, sons of Zeruiah? So let him curse, for YHWH has said to him, Curse David; and who shall say, Why have you done so?"
11And David said to Abishai and to all his servants, "Behold, my son, who came forth from my bowels, seeks my soul (nephesh); and how much more now this Benjamite? Let him alone, and let him curse, for YHWH has said to him.
12Perhaps YHWH will look upon my eye, and YHWH will return to me good for his cursing this day."
13And David and his men (ish) went on the way; and Shimei was going along the side of the hill opposite him, going and cursing, and he cast stones opposite him, and threw dust (aphar).
14And the king came, and all the people who were with him, weary; and he refreshed himself there.
15And Absalom, and all the people, the men (ish) of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.
16And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, came to Absalom, that Hushai said to Absalom, "Long live the king! Long live the king!"
17And Absalom said to Hushai, "Is this your kindness to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?"
18And Hushai said to Absalom, "No, but whom YHWH and this people and all the men (ish) of Israel have chosen, his I will be, and with him I will abide.
19And secondly, whom should I serve (avad)? Should it not be before his son? As I served (avad) before your father, so will I be before you."
20And Absalom said to Ahithophel, "Give your counsel, what shall we do?"
21And Ahithophel said to Absalom, "Go in to your father's concubines, whom he left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that you have made yourself odious to your father, and the hands of all who are with you will be strong."
22And they spread for Absalom the tent (ohel) upon the roof; and Absalom went in to his father's concubines in the eyes of all Israel.
23And the counsel of Ahithophel which he counseled in those days was as when a man (ish) inquired by the word of God; so was all the counsel of Ahithophel, both to David and to Absalom.
