Deuteronomy 1

Yeshua Literal Version (YLV)

These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel beyond the Jordan, in the wilderness, in the Arabah, opposite Suph, between Paran and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Di-zahab.

Eleven days from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea.

And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first of the month, that Moses spoke to the sons of Israel according to all that YHWH had commanded (tzivvah) him to them,

after he had struck down Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who dwelt in Ashtaroth, at Edrei.

Beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, Moses began to expound this Torah, saying:

YHWH our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying, "Enough for you to dwell in this mountain.

Turn and journey for yourselves, and come to the mountain of the Amorites and to all its neighbors, in the Arabah, in the mountain, and in the lowland, and in the Negev, and in the seacoast, the land of the Canaanites, and the Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.

See, I have set the land before you. Go in and possess the land which YHWH swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their seed after them."

And I said to you at that time, saying, "I am not able by myself alone to bear you.

YHWH your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are this day as the stars of the heavens for multitude.

YHWH, the God of your fathers, may He add to you a thousand times as many as you are, and bless you, as He has spoken to you!

How can I by myself alone bear your trouble, and your burden, and your strife?

Give for yourselves men (ish) wise and understanding and known to your tribes, and I will set them as your heads."

And you answered me and said, "The thing which you have spoken is good to do."

And I took the heads of your tribes, men (ish) wise and known, and I gave them as heads over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens, and officers for your tribes.

And I commanded (tzivvah) your judges at that time, saying, "Hear between your brothers, and judge righteously between a man (ish) and his brother, and his sojourner.

You shall not recognize faces in judgment (mishpat); you shall hear the small as the great; you shall not be afraid before the face of a man (ish), for the judgment (mishpat) is God's. And the matter which is too hard for you, you shall bring near to me, and I will hear it."

And I commanded (tzivvah) you at that time all the things which you should do.

And we journeyed from Horeb, and went through all that great and fearful wilderness which you saw, by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as YHWH our God commanded (tzivvah) us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.

And I said to you, "You have come to the mountain of the Amorites, which YHWH our God is giving to us.

See, YHWH your God has set the land before you. Go up, possess it, as YHWH, the God of your fathers, has spoken to you. Do not fear, and do not be dismayed."

And you came near to me, all of you, and said, "Let us send men (ish) before us, and they shall search out for us the land, and bring us back word of the way by which we should go up, and the cities to which we shall come."

And the thing was good in my eyes, and I took from you twelve men (ish), one man (ish) for each tribe.

And they turned and went up to the mountain, and came to the valley of Eshcol, and spied it out.

And they took in their hand of the fruit of the land, and brought it down to us, and brought us back word and said, "Good is the land which YHWH our God is giving to us."

But you were not willing to go up, and you rebelled against the mouth of YHWH your God.

And you murmured in your tents and said, "Because YHWH hated us, He has brought us out from the land of Egypt, to give us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

Where are we going up? Our brothers have melted our heart, saying, 'A people greater and taller than we; cities great and fortified up to the heavens; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.'"

And I said to you, "Do not be terrified, and do not fear them.

YHWH your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all that He did with you in Egypt before your eyes,

and in the wilderness, where you saw how YHWH your God carried you, as a man (ish) carries his son, in all the way that you went, until you came to this place."

Yet in this thing you are not believing in YHWH your God,

who goes before you in the way, to seek out for you a place for your encamping, in fire by night, to show you the way in which you should go, and in the cloud by day.

And YHWH heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and swore, saying,

"Surely not a man (ish) among these men (ish), this evil generation, shall see the good land which I swore to give to your fathers,

except Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him I will give the land on which he has trodden, and to his sons, because he has wholly followed after YHWH."

Also with me YHWH was angry for your sakes, saying, "You also shall not go in there.

Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, he shall go in there. Strengthen him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

And your little ones, of whom you said they would be for a prey, and your sons, who this day do not know good and evil, they shall go in there, and to them I will give it, and they shall possess it.

But you, turn for yourselves and journey to the wilderness by the way of the Sea of Reeds."

And you answered and said to me, "We have sinned against YHWH; we will go up and fight, according to all that YHWH our God commanded (tzivvah) us." And you girded on, every man (ish), his weapons of war, and you deemed it light to go up to the mountain.

And YHWH said to me, "Say to them, 'Do not go up, and do not fight, for I am not in your midst, lest you be struck before your enemies.'"

And I spoke to you, and you did not hear; and you rebelled against the mouth of YHWH, and acted presumptuously, and went up to the mountain.

And the Amorite who dwelt in that mountain came out to meet you, and chased you as the bees do, and beat you down in Seir, as far as Hormah.

And you returned and wept before YHWH, but YHWH did not hear your voice, and did not give ear to you.

And you dwelt in Kadesh many days, according to the days that you dwelt there.
