Every word which I command (tzivvah) you, it you shall keep to do; you shall not add to it, nor diminish from it.
If there arise in your midst a prophet, or a dreamer of a dream, and he gives to you a sign (ot) or a wonder (mofet),
and the sign (ot) or the wonder (mofet) comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, "Let us go after other gods which you have not known, and let us serve (avad) them";
you shall not hearken to the words of that prophet, or to that dreamer of the dream; for YHWH your God is testing you, to know whether you love YHWH your God with all your heart and with all your soul (nephesh).
After YHWH your God you shall walk, and him you shall fear, and his commandments (mitzvah) you shall keep, and to his voice you shall hearken, and him you shall serve (avad), and to him you shall cleave.
And that prophet, or that dreamer of the dream, shall be put to death; because he has spoken turning-away against YHWH your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of servants, to thrust you out of the way which YHWH your God commanded (tzivvah) you to walk in. So you shall burn away the evil from your midst.
If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife (ishah) of your bosom, or your friend who is like your own soul (nephesh), entices you secretly, saying, "Let us go and serve (avad) other gods," which you have not known, you nor your fathers,
of the gods of the peoples who are round about you, near to you or far from you, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth;
you shall not consent to him, nor hearken to him; neither shall your eye pity him, neither shall you spare, neither shall you conceal him;
but you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people.
And you shall stone him with stones, that he die; because he sought to thrust you away from YHWH your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of servants.
And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall not again do according to this evil thing in your midst.
If you hear concerning one of your cities, which YHWH your God is giving to you to dwell there, saying,
"Certain men (ish), sons of worthlessness, have gone out from your midst and have thrust away the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve (avad) other gods which you have not known,"
then you shall inquire, and search, and ask diligently; and behold, if it is truth, the thing is certain, that this abomination is done in your midst,
you shall surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, devoting it to destruction, and all that is in it and its cattle, with the edge of the sword.
And all its spoil you shall gather into the midst of its open square, and you shall burn with fire the city and all its spoil entirely, to YHWH your God; and it shall be a heap forever; it shall not be built again.
And there shall cleave nothing of the devoted thing to your hand, that YHWH may turn from the fierceness of his anger and give to you mercy, and have compassion on you, and multiply you, as he swore to your fathers;
when you hearken to the voice of YHWH your God, to keep all his commandments (mitzvah) which I command (tzivvah) you this day, to do what is right in the eyes of YHWH your God.
