1On that night the king's sleep fled, and he said to bring the book of the records, the words of the days; and they were read before the king.
2And it was found written that Mordecai had told concerning Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's eunuchs, of those who kept the threshold, who had sought to lay a hand on the king Ahasuerus.
3And the king said: What honor and greatness has been done to Mordecai for this? And the king's servants who ministered to him said: Nothing has been done with him.
4And the king said: Who is in the court? Now Haman had come to the outer court of the king's house, to say to the king to hang Mordecai on the tree that he had prepared for him.
5And the king's servants said to him: Behold, Haman is standing in the court. And the king said: Let him come in.
6And Haman came in, and the king said to him: What is to be done with the man (ish) whom the king delights to honor? And Haman said in his heart: To whom would the king delight to do honor more than me?
7And Haman said to the king: A man (ish) whom the king delights to honor —
8let them bring royal apparel which the king has worn, and a horse that the king has ridden upon, and on whose head a royal crown has been set;
9and let the apparel and the horse be given into the hand of a man (ish) of the king's noble princes, and let them clothe the man (ish) whom the king delights to honor, and cause him to ride on the horse in the broad place of the city, and let them proclaim before him: Thus it shall be done to the man (ish) whom the king delights to honor.
10And the king said to Haman: Hasten, take the apparel and the horse, as you have spoken, and do so to Mordecai the Jew who sits in the king's gate; let nothing fall of all that you have spoken.
11And Haman took the apparel and the horse, and clothed Mordecai, and caused him to ride in the broad place of the city, and proclaimed before him: Thus it shall be done to the man (ish) whom the king delights to honor.
12And Mordecai returned to the king's gate; but Haman hurried to his house, mourning and with his head covered.
13And Haman recounted to Zeresh his wife (ishah) and to all his friends all that had happened to him. And his wise men and Zeresh his wife (ishah) said to him: If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of the seed of the Jews, you will not prevail against him, but you will surely fall before him.
14While they were still speaking with him, the king's eunuchs arrived, and they hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had made.
