And Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife (ishah) and all that he had, and Lot with him, toward the Negev.
And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.
And he went on his journeys from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,
to the place of the altar which he had made there at the first; and Abram called there on the name of YHWH.
And also to Lot, who went with Abram, there were flocks and herds and tents.
And the land did not bear them to dwell together, for their possessions were great, and they were not able to dwell together.
And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite were then dwelling in the land.
And Abram said to Lot, "Let there be no strife, I pray, between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are men (ish), brothers.
Is not all the land before you? Separate yourself, I pray, from me. If to the left, then I will go to the right; and if to the right, then I will go to the left."
And Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that all of it was well-watered — before YHWH destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah — like the garden of YHWH, like the land of Egypt, as you come to Zoar.
And Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan; and Lot journeyed from the east; and they separated themselves, a man (ish) from his brother.
Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain, and he moved his tent as far as Sodom.
And the men (ish) of Sodom were wicked and sinners against YHWH exceedingly.
And YHWH said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: "Lift up now your eyes, and see from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward,
for all the land which you see, to you I will give it, and to your seed for ever.
And I will make your seed as the dust (aphar) of the earth, so that, if a man (ish) is able to number the dust (aphar) of the earth, then your seed also shall be numbered.
Arise, walk through the land, to its length and to its breadth, for to you I will give it.
And Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron; and he built there an altar to YHWH.
