1And it was the day, that the sons of God came to present themselves before YHWH, and Satan also came among them to present himself before YHWH.
2And YHWH said to Satan, "From where do you come?" And Satan answered YHWH and said, "From roaming in the earth, and from walking up and down in it."
3And YHWH said to Satan, "Have you set your heart on my servant Job? For there is none like him in the earth, a man (ish) blameless and upright, fearing God and turning aside from evil; and still he holds fast his integrity, though you incited me against him to swallow him up without cause."
4And Satan answered YHWH and said, "Skin for skin, and all that the man (ish) has he will give for his soul (nephesh).
5But put forth now your hand, and touch his bone and his flesh (basar) — surely to your face he will bless you."
6And YHWH said to Satan, "Behold, he is in your hand; only spare his soul (nephesh)."
7And Satan went out from the presence of YHWH, and struck Job with evil boils, from the sole of his foot to his crown.
8And he took for himself a potsherd to scrape himself with it; and he was sitting in the midst of the ashes.
9And his wife (ishah) said to him, "Are you still holding fast your integrity? Bless God, and die."
10And he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed receive the good from God, and the evil shall we not receive?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
11And the three friends of Job heard of all this evil that had come upon him, and they came, each man (ish) from his place — Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite; and they met together to come to bemoan him and to comfort him.
12And they lifted up their eyes from afar, and did not recognize him, and they lifted up their voice and wept; and they tore, each man (ish) his robe, and threw dust (aphar) upon their heads toward the heavens.
13And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spoke a word to him, for they saw that the pain was very great.
