Joshua 17

Yeshua Literal Version (YLV)

And the lot was for the tribe of Manasseh, for he was the firstborn of Joseph; for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead — because he was a man (ish) of war, therefore Gilead and Bashan were his.

And there was a lot for the rest of the children of Manasseh according to their families: for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida; these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph according to their families.

And Zelophehad the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying: "YHWH commanded (tzivvah) Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers." And according to the mouth of YHWH he gave them an inheritance among the brothers of their father.

And there fell ten portions to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is beyond the Jordan;

for the daughters of Manasseh inherited an inheritance among his sons; and the land of Gilead was for the rest of the sons of Manasseh.

And the border of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethath, which is before Shechem; and the border went to the right hand, to the inhabitants of En-tappuah.

To Manasseh was the land of Tappuah; but Tappuah, on the border of Manasseh, was for the children of Ephraim.

And the border went down to the brook of Kanah, southward of the brook; these cities of Ephraim were among the cities of Manasseh; and the border of Manasseh was on the north of the brook, and its goings out were at the sea.

Southward it was Ephraim's, and northward it was Manasseh's, and the sea was his border; and they reached to Asher on the north, and to Issachar on the east.

And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Beth-shean and its towns, and Ibleam and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of En-dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns — the three heights.

And the children of Manasseh were not able to dispossess these cities; but the Canaanite was determined to dwell in that land.

And it came to pass, when the children of Israel grew strong, that they put the Canaanite to forced labor, but they did not utterly dispossess him.

And the children of Joseph spoke with Joshua, saying: "Why have you given me as an inheritance one lot and one portion, seeing I am a numerous people, since YHWH has blessed me thus?"

And Joshua said to them: "If you are a numerous people, go up for yourself to the forest, and cut down for yourself there in the land of the Perizzite and of the Rephaim, since the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you."

And the children of Joseph said: "The hill country will not be enough for us; and chariots of iron are with all the Canaanites who dwell in the land of the valley, with those who are in Beth-shean and its towns, and those who are in the valley of Jezreel."

And Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying: "You are a numerous people, and great power is yours; you shall not have one lot only,

for the hill country shall be yours; though it is a forest, you shall cut it down, and its goings out shall be yours; for you shall dispossess the Canaanite, though chariots of iron are his, though he is strong."
