Joshua 7

Yeshua Literal Version (YLV)

And the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted thing; and Achan son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the devoted thing; and the anger of YHWH was kindled against the children of Israel.

And Joshua sent men (ish) from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east of Beth-el, and said to them, saying, "Go up and spy out the land." And the men (ish) went up and spied out Ai.

And they returned to Joshua and said to him, "Let not all the people go up; let about two thousand men (ish) or about three thousand men (ish) go up, and let them strike Ai; do not weary all the people there, for they are few."

And there went up of the people there about three thousand men (ish); and they fled before the men (ish) of Ai.

And the men (ish) of Ai struck of them about thirty-six men (ish), and they pursued them before the gate as far as Shebarim, and struck them at the descent; and the heart of the people melted and became as water.

And Joshua tore his garments and fell on his face to the earth before the ark of YHWH until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust (aphar) on their head.

And Joshua said, "Alas, my Lord (Adonai) YHWH, why have You at all brought this people over the Jordan, to give us into the hand of the Amorite, to destroy us? And would that we had been content and dwelt beyond the Jordan!

Oh, my Lord (Adonai), what shall I say after Israel has turned the neck before its enemies?

And the Canaanite and all the inhabitants of the land will hear, and they will surround us and cut off our name from the earth; and what will You do for Your great name?"

And YHWH said to Joshua, "Rise up for yourself; why is this that you are fallen on your face?

Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant (berit) which I commanded (tzivvah) them; and they have also taken of the devoted thing, and have also stolen, and also dissembled, and they have also put it among their own vessels.

And the children of Israel are not able to stand before their enemies; they turn the neck before their enemies, because they have become a devoted thing; I will not continue to be with you unless you destroy the devoted thing from your midst.

Rise up, sanctify the people, and say, 'Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow'; for thus says YHWH, the God of Israel, 'A devoted thing is in your midst, O Israel; you are not able to stand before your enemies until you remove the devoted thing from your midst.'

And you shall draw near in the morning by your tribes; and it shall be that the tribe which YHWH takes shall draw near by the families; and the family which YHWH takes shall draw near by the households; and the household which YHWH takes shall draw near by the able-men.

And it shall be that the one taken with the devoted thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that is his, because he has transgressed the covenant (berit) of YHWH, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.'"

And Joshua rose early in the morning and brought Israel near by its tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken.

And he brought near the family of Judah, and he took the family of the Zerahite; and he brought near the family of the Zerahite by the able-men, and Zabdi was taken.

And he brought near his household by the able-men, and Achan son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

And Joshua said to Achan, "My son, give, please, glory to YHWH, the God of Israel, and give to Him praise; and tell me, please, what you have done; do not hide it from me."

And Achan answered Joshua and said, "Truly I have sinned against YHWH, the God of Israel, and thus and thus I have done.

And I saw among the spoil a goodly mantle of Shinar, and two hundred shekels of silver, and one tongue of gold of fifty shekels its weight, and I coveted them and took them; and behold, they are hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it."

And Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent; and behold, it was hidden in his tent, and the silver under it.

And they took them from the midst of the tent and brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel; and they poured them out before YHWH.

And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan son of Zerah, and the silver, and the mantle, and the tongue of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his ox, and his donkey, and his flock, and his tent, and all that was his; and they brought them up to the valley of Achor.

And Joshua said, "Why have you troubled us? YHWH will trouble you this day." And all Israel stoned him with stones, and they burned them with fire, and pelted them with stones.

And they raised over him a great heap of stones, to this day; and YHWH turned from the fierceness of His anger. Therefore the name of that place was called the valley of Achor, to this day.
