1Remember, YHWH, what has come upon us; look, and see our reproach.
2Our inheritance is turned over to strangers, our houses to foreigners.
3Orphans we have become, with no father; our mothers are like widows.
4Our water we have drunk for silver; our wood comes for a price.
5Upon our necks we are pursued; we labor, and no rest is given to us.
6To Egypt we have given the hand, to Assyria, to be satisfied with bread.
7Our fathers sinned and are no more; and we, we have borne their iniquities.
8Servants rule over us; there is none delivering from their hand.
9With our soul (nephesh) we bring our bread, because of the sword of the wilderness.
10Our skin is hot like an oven, because of the burning heat of famine.
11Women in Zion they have ravished, virgins in the cities of Judah.
12Princes were hung up by their hand; the faces of elders were not honored.
13Young men bore the mill, and youths stumbled under the wood.
14The elders have shabbatted from the gate, the young men from their music.
15The joy of our heart has shabbatted; our dance is turned to mourning.
16The crown of our head has fallen; woe now to us, for we have sinned.
17For this our heart has become faint; for these our eyes are darkened.
18Upon Mount Zion, which is desolate, foxes walk upon it.
19You, YHWH, are enthroned forever; your throne is from generation to generation.
20Why do you forget us forever, forsake us for length of days?
21Turn us back to you, YHWH, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.
22For if you have utterly rejected us, you are exceedingly angry with us.
