1And these are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that YHWH spoke with Moses in mount Sinai.
2And these are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
3These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whose hand he filled to act as priests.
4And Nadab and Abihu died before YHWH, when they brought near strange fire before YHWH in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no sons; and Eleazar and Ithamar acted as priests upon the face of Aaron their father.
5And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying:
6Bring near the tribe of Levi, and you shall make it stand before Aaron the priest, and they shall minister to him.
7And they shall keep his charge (mishmeret), and the charge (mishmeret) of all the congregation, before the tent (ohel) of appointed time (moed), to serve (avad) the service (avodah) of the tabernacle (mishkan).
8And they shall keep all the vessels of the tent (ohel) of appointed time (moed), and the charge (mishmeret) of the sons of Israel, to serve (avad) the service (avodah) of the tabernacle (mishkan).
9And you shall give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; wholly given are they to him from the sons of Israel.
10And Aaron and his sons you shall appoint, and they shall keep their priesthood; and the stranger who draws near shall be put to death.
11And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying:
12And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from the midst of the sons of Israel instead of every firstborn that opens the womb among the sons of Israel; and the Levites shall be Mine.
13For Mine is every firstborn; in the day I struck every firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified to Me every firstborn in Israel, from man (adam) to beast; Mine they shall be. I am YHWH.
14And YHWH spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying:
15Number the sons of Levi by the house of their fathers, by their families; every male from a month old and upward you shall number them.
16And Moses numbered them according to the mouth of YHWH, as he was commanded (tzivvah).
17And these were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari.
18And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei.
19And the sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, and Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
20And the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levite by the house of their fathers.
21Of Gershon was the family of the Libnite, and the family of the Shimeite; these are the families of the Gershonite.
22Those numbered of them, by the number of every male from a month old and upward, those numbered of them were seven thousand and five hundred.
23The families of the Gershonite were to camp behind the tabernacle (mishkan) westward;
24and the prince of the house of the father for the Gershonite was Eliasaph the son of Lael.
25And the charge (mishmeret) of the sons of Gershon in the tent (ohel) of appointed time (moed): the tabernacle (mishkan), and the tent (ohel), its covering, and the screen of the door of the tent (ohel) of appointed time (moed),
26and the hangings of the court, and the screen of the door of the court, which is by the tabernacle (mishkan) and by the altar round about, and its cords, for all its service (avodah).
27And of Kohath was the family of the Amramite, and the family of the Izharite, and the family of the Hebronite, and the family of the Uzzielite; these are the families of the Kohathite.
28By the number of every male from a month old and upward, eight thousand and six hundred, keepers of the charge (mishmeret) of the sanctuary.
29The families of the sons of Kohath were to camp on the side of the tabernacle (mishkan) southward;
30and the prince of the house of the father for the families of the Kohathite was Elizaphan the son of Uzziel.
31And their charge (mishmeret): the ark, and the table, and the lampstand, and the altars, and the vessels of the sanctuary with which they minister, and the screen, and all its service (avodah).
32And the prince of the princes of the Levite was Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, the oversight of the keepers of the charge (mishmeret) of the sanctuary.
33Of Merari was the family of the Mahlite, and the family of the Mushite; these are the families of Merari.
34And those numbered of them, by the number of every male from a month old and upward, were six thousand and two hundred.
35And the prince of the house of the father for the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail; they were to camp on the side of the tabernacle (mishkan) northward.
36And the oversight of the charge (mishmeret) of the sons of Merari: the boards of the tabernacle (mishkan), and its bars, and its pillars, and its sockets, and all its vessels, and all its service (avodah);
37and the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords.
38And those camping before the tabernacle (mishkan) eastward, before the tent (ohel) of appointed time (moed) toward the sunrise, were Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge (mishmeret) of the sanctuary, for the charge (mishmeret) of the sons of Israel; and the stranger who draws near shall be put to death.
39All those numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the mouth of YHWH, by their families, every male from a month old and upward, were two and twenty thousand.
40And YHWH said to Moses: Number every firstborn male of the sons of Israel from a month old and upward, and take the number of their names.
41And you shall take the Levites for Me — I am YHWH — instead of every firstborn among the sons of Israel; and the beast of the Levites instead of every firstborn among the beast of the sons of Israel.
42And Moses numbered, as YHWH commanded (tzivvah) him, every firstborn among the sons of Israel.
43And every firstborn male, by the number of names, from a month old and upward, of those numbered of them, were two and twenty thousand two hundred and seventy-three.
44And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying:
45Take the Levites instead of every firstborn among the sons of Israel, and the beast of the Levites instead of their beast; and the Levites shall be Mine. I am YHWH.
46And for the redemption of the two hundred and seventy-three, those of the firstborn of the sons of Israel that are over and above the Levites,
47you shall take five shekels apiece by the head; by the shekel of the sanctuary you shall take, twenty gerahs the shekel.
48And you shall give the money to Aaron and to his sons, the redemption of those over and above among them.
49And Moses took the redemption money from those over and above the redeemed of the Levites;
50from the firstborn of the sons of Israel he took the money: a thousand three hundred and sixty-five by the shekel of the sanctuary.
51And Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and to his sons, according to the mouth of YHWH, as YHWH commanded (tzivvah) Moses.
