For the leader. Of David. In YHWH I have taken refuge; how do you say to my soul (nephesh), "Flee to your mountain, O bird"?
For behold, the wicked bend the bow; they have set their arrow upon the string, to shoot in the darkness at the upright of heart.
When the foundations are destroyed, the righteous—what has he done?
YHWH is in his holy temple; YHWH, his throne is in the heavens; his eyes behold, his eyelids test the sons of man (adam).
YHWH tests the righteous; but the wicked and the one who loves violence, his soul (nephesh) hates.
He will rain upon the wicked snares; fire and brimstone and a spirit (ruach) of scorching heat are the portion of their cup.
For YHWH is righteous, he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face.
