1And I stood on the sand of the sea, and I saw a beast coming up out of the sea having ten horns and seven heads, and on its horns ten diadems, and on its heads names of blasphemy.
2And the beast that I saw was like a leopard, and its feet were like a bear's, and its mouth was like a lion's mouth, and the dragon gave it his dynamis(power) and his throne and great exousia(authority).
3And one of its heads was as though slaughtered unto death, and its death wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled after the beast.
4And they worshiped the dragon because he had given exousia(authority) to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast, and who is able to make war with it?"
5And a mouth speaking great things and blasphemy was given to it, and exousia(authority) to make war for forty-two months was given to it.
6And it opened its mouth in blasphemy toward God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle — those dwelling in heaven.
7And it was given to it to make war with the holy ones and to overcome them, and exousia(authority) over every tribe and people and tongue and ethnos(nation, Gentile-people) was given to it.
8And all those dwelling on the earth will worship it — everyone whose name has not been written in the biblion(scroll) of zoe(life) of the Lamb slaughtered from the foundation of the world.
9If anyone has an ear, let him hear.
10If anyone is for captivity, into captivity he goes; if anyone kills with a sword, he must be killed with a sword — here is the steadfast endurance and the faith of the holy ones.
11And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and it had two horns like a lamb and was speaking like a dragon.
12And it exercises all the exousia(authority) of the first beast before it, and it makes the earth and those dwelling in it worship the first beast, whose death wound was healed.
13And it performs great signs, so that it even makes fire come down from heaven to the earth before people.
14And it deceives those dwelling on the earth by means of the signs that were given to it to perform before the beast, telling those dwelling on the earth to make an image for the beast who had the wound of the sword and lived.
15And it was given to it to give pneuma(spirit) to the image of the beast so that the image of the beast might even speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.
16And it causes all — the small and the great, the rich and the poor, the free and the slaves — to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead,
17and that no one would be able to buy or sell except the one having the mark — the name of the beast or the number of its name.
18Here is sophia(wisdom): let the one having nous(intellect, spiritual domain) calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a person, and its number is six hundred sixty-six.
