1And the Philistines fought against Israel; and the man (ish) of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and they fell down slain on mount Gilboa.
2And the Philistines pursued hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines struck Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.
3And the battle was heavy upon Saul, and the archers found him with the bow, and he was in anguish from the archers.
4And Saul said to the bearer of his weapons, "Draw your sword and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me." But the bearer of his weapons would not, for he feared greatly. So Saul took the sword and fell upon it.
5And the bearer of his weapons saw that Saul was dead, and he too fell upon the sword and died.
6And Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.
7And all the men (ish) of Israel who were in the valley saw that they had fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, and they forsook their cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8And it came to pass on the morrow that the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his sons fallen on mount Gilboa.
9And they stripped him, and took his head and his weapons, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to bring the news to their idols and to the people.
10And they put his weapons in the house of their gods, and fastened his skull in the house of Dagon.
11And all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul.
12And all the men (ish) of valor arose and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the terebinth in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
13And Saul died in his treachery which he committed against YHWH, concerning the word of YHWH which he did not keep; and also for asking of a medium, to inquire,
14and he did not inquire of YHWH; therefore He put him to death and turned the kingdom to David son of Jesse.
