1And these are those who came to David at Ziklag, while he was still shut up from before Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men, helpers of the war.
2armed with the bow, using the right hand and the left with stones and with arrows by the bow, from the brothers of Saul, from Benjamin:
3the head Ahiezer, and Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; and Jeziel and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; and Beracah, and Jehu the Anathothite,
4and Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty and over the thirty,
5and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Jozabad the Gederathite,
6Eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite,
7Elkanah, and Isshiah, and Azarel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites,
8and Joelah, and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham from Gedor.
9And from the Gadite there separated to David, to the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men (ish) of the army for the war, arrayers of shield and spear, and the faces of a lion were their faces, and like gazelles upon the mountains for swiftness:
10Ezer the head, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,
11Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,
12Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,
13Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,
14Jeremiah the tenth, Machbannai the eleventh.
15These were of the sons of Gad, heads of the army; the least one to a hundred, and the greatest to a thousand.
16These are they who crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it was filling over all its banks, and they put to flight all those of the valleys, to the east and to the west.
17And there came of the sons of Benjamin and Judah, to the stronghold, to David.
18And David went out before them, and answered and said to them, "If you have come in peace to me to help me, my heart shall be united toward you; but if to betray me to my adversaries, since there is no violence in my hands, may the God of our fathers see and decide."
19And a spirit (ruach) clothed Amasai, head of the captains: "To you, David, and with you, son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you, and peace to your helper, for your God has helped you." And David received them, and put them among the heads of the band.
20And of Manasseh some fell away to David when he came with the Philistines against Saul to the battle; but they did not help them, for with counsel the lords of the Philistines sent him away, saying, "At the cost of our heads he will fall away to his master Saul."
21As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh: Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillethai, heads of the thousands that were of Manasseh.
22And they helped David against the band, for they were all mighty men of valor, and they became chiefs in the army.
23For at that time day by day they came to David to help him, until there was a great camp, like the camp of God.
24And these are the numbers of the heads of those armed for the army, who came to David at Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the mouth of YHWH.
25The sons of Judah, bearers of shield and spear, six thousand and eight hundred, armed for the army.
26Of the sons of Simeon, mighty men of valor for the army, seven thousand and one hundred.
27Of the sons of Levi, four thousand and six hundred.
28And Jehoiada was the leader for Aaron, and with him three thousand and seven hundred,
29and Zadok, a young man mighty of valor, and the house of his father, twenty-two chiefs.
30And of the sons of Benjamin, the brothers of Saul, three thousand; and until then the greater part of them were keeping the charge (mishmeret) of the house of Saul.
31And of the sons of Ephraim, twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valor, men (ish) of names for the house of their fathers.
32And of the half of the tribe of Manasseh, eighteen thousand, who were designated by names, to come to make David king.
33And of the sons of Issachar, knowers of understanding for the times, to know what Israel should do; their heads were two hundred, and all their brothers were according to their mouth.
34Of Zebulun, those going out to the army, arrayers of battle with all weapons of war, fifty thousand, and to set in array without a double heart.
35And of Naphtali, a thousand chiefs, and with them, with shield and spear, thirty-seven thousand.
36And of the Danite, arrayers of battle, twenty-eight thousand and six hundred.
37And of Asher, those going out to the army, to array battle, forty thousand.
38And from beyond the Jordan, of the Reubenite and the Gadite and the half tribe of Manasseh, with all weapons of the army of war, a hundred and twenty thousand.
39All these, men (ish) of war, arrayers of the battle line, with a whole heart came to Hebron to make David king over all Israel; and also all the rest of Israel were of one heart to make David king.
40And they were there with David three days, eating and drinking, for their brothers had prepared for them.
41And also those near to them, as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, were bringing bread on the donkeys, and on the camels, and on the mules, and on the oxen — food of meal, cakes of figs, and clusters of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep in abundance; for there was joy in Israel.
