1And king Solomon loved many foreign women (ishah), and the daughter of Pharaoh, Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, Hittite women;
2of the nations of which YHWH said to the sons of Israel, "You shall not go in among them, and they shall not go in among you; surely they will turn away your heart after their gods" — to these Solomon clung in love.
3And he had wives (ishah), princesses, seven hundred, and concubines, three hundred; and his wives (ishah) turned away his heart.
4And it came to pass at the time of Solomon's old age, his wives (ishah) turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not whole with YHWH his God, like the heart of David his father.
5And Solomon went after Ashtoreth the god of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.
6And Solomon did the evil in the eyes of YHWH, and did not fully go after YHWH like David his father.
7Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the mountain which is before the face of Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the sons of Ammon.
8And so he did for all his foreign wives (ishah), who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.
9And YHWH was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from YHWH the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,
10and had commanded (tzivvah) him concerning this thing, not to go after other gods; but he did not keep that which YHWH commanded (tzivvah).
11And YHWH said to Solomon, "Because this has been with you, and you have not kept my covenant (berit) and my statutes (chuqqot) which I commanded (tzivvah) you, I will surely tear the kingdom from upon you, and give it to your servant.
12Only in your days I will not do it, for the sake of David your father; from the hand of your son I will tear it.
13Only I will not tear away all the kingdom; one tribe I will give to your son, for the sake of David my servant, and for the sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen."
14And YHWH raised up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was of the seed of the king in Edom.
15And it came to pass, when David was with Edom, when Joab the commander of the army went up to bury the slain, that he struck every male in Edom —
16for six months Joab dwelt there, and all Israel, until he had cut off every male in Edom —
17that Hadad fled, he and men (ish), Edomites, of his father's servants with him, to go into Egypt; and Hadad was a little boy.
18And they arose out of Midian and came to Paran, and they took men (ish) with them out of Paran, and they came to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he gave him a house, and appointed bread for him, and gave him land.
19And Hadad found great favor in the eyes of Pharaoh, and he gave him a wife (ishah), the sister of his own wife (ishah), the sister of Tahpenes the queen.
20And the sister of Tahpenes bore him Genubath his son, and Tahpenes weaned him within the house of Pharaoh; and Genubath was in the house of Pharaoh among the sons of Pharaoh.
21And Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the commander of the army was dead; and Hadad said to Pharaoh, "Send me away, that I may go to my own land."
22And Pharaoh said to him, "But what do you lack with me, that, behold, you seek to go to your own land?" And he said, "Nothing; only you must surely send me away."
23And God raised up an adversary to him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from Hadadezer king of Zobah his lord.
24And he gathered men (ish) to him, and became commander of a troop, when David killed them; and they went to Damascus and dwelt in it, and reigned in Damascus.
25And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, and beside the evil that Hadad did; and he loathed Israel, and reigned over Aram.
26And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah — and the name of his mother was Zeruah, a widow woman (ishah) — a servant of Solomon, also lifted up his hand against the king.
27And this is the thing for which he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built the Millo, and closed up the breach of the city of David his father.
28And the man (ish) Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor; and Solomon saw the young man that he was a doer of work, and he appointed him over all the burden of the house of Joseph.
29And it came to pass at that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that Ahijah the Shilonite, the prophet, found him in the way; and he had covered himself with a new garment, and the two of them were alone in the field.
30And Ahijah laid hold of the new garment that was on him, and tore it into twelve pieces.
31And he said to Jeroboam, "Take for yourself ten pieces; for thus says YHWH, the God of Israel: Behold, I am tearing the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and I will give to you the ten tribes.
32But the one tribe shall be his, for the sake of my servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel —
33because they have forsaken me, and bowed down to Ashtoreth the god of the Sidonians, to Chemosh the god of Moab, and to Milcom the god of the sons of Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my eyes, and my statutes (chuqqot) and my judgments (mishpat), like David his father.
34But I will not take all the kingdom out of his hand; for I will make him a prince all the days of his life (chai), for the sake of David my servant, whom I chose, who kept my commandments (mitzvah) and my statutes (chuqqot).
35But I will take the kingship out of the hand of his son, and I will give it to you — the ten tribes.
36And to his son I will give one tribe, that there may be a lamp for David my servant all the days before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for myself to put my name there.
37And you I will take, and you shall reign over all that your soul (nephesh) desires, and you shall be king over Israel.
38And it shall be, if you listen to all that I command (tzivvah) you, and walk in my ways, and do that which is right in my eyes, to keep my statutes (chuqqot) and my commandments (mitzvah), as David my servant did, that I will be with you, and will build for you a sure house, as I built for David, and I will give Israel to you.
39And I will afflict the seed of David for this, but not all the days."
40And Solomon sought to put Jeroboam to death; but Jeroboam arose and fled to Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.
41And the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written upon the book of the acts of Solomon?
42And the days that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel were forty years.
43And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father; and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.
