Kings 21

Yeshua Literal Version (YLV)

And it came to pass after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, beside the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

And Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying: "Give me your vineyard, that it may be for me for a garden of herbs, because it is near beside my house; and I will give you in its place a vineyard better than it; if it is good in your eyes, I will give you the price of this in money."

And Naboth said to Ahab: "Far be it from me, from YHWH, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you."

And Ahab came into his house sullen and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him, for he said: "I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers." And he lay down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and did not eat bread.

And Jezebel his wife (ishah) came to him, and spoke to him: "Why is this, your spirit (ruach) sullen, and you are not eating bread?"

And he spoke to her: "Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him: Give me your vineyard for money; or if you desire, I will give you a vineyard in its place; and he said: I will not give you my vineyard."

And Jezebel his wife (ishah) said to him: "You, now you make kingship over Israel? Arise, eat bread, and let your heart be merry; I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite."

And she wrote letters in the name of Ahab, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and to the nobles who were in his city, those dwelling with Naboth.

And she wrote in the letters, saying: "Proclaim a fast, and seat Naboth at the head of the people;

and seat two men (ish), sons of Belial, opposite him, and let them testify against him, saying: You have blessed God and the king. And bring him out, and stone him, that he may die."

And the men (ish) of his city, the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them.

They proclaimed a fast, and seated Naboth at the head of the people.

And the two men (ish), sons of Belial, came in and sat opposite him; and the men (ish) of Belial testified against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying: "Naboth has blessed God and the king." And they brought him out outside the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

And they sent to Jezebel, saying: "Naboth has been stoned and is dead."

And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab: "Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not living (chai), but dead."

And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab arose to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

And the word of YHWH came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying:

"Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who is in Samaria; behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, where he has gone down to take possession of it.

And you shall speak to him, saying: Thus says YHWH: Have you murdered, and also taken possession? And you shall speak to him, saying: Thus says YHWH: In the place where the dogs licked the blood of Naboth, the dogs shall lick your blood, even yours."

And Ahab said to Elijah: "Have you found me, O my enemy?" And he said: "I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do that which is evil in the eyes of YHWH.

Behold, I am bringing evil upon you, and I will purge after you, and I will cut off from Ahab the one urinating against a wall, and the one shut up and the one left at large in Israel.

And I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation with which you have provoked, and have made Israel to sin.

And also concerning Jezebel YHWH spoke, saying: The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel.

The one who dies of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and the one who dies in the field the birds of the heavens shall eat."

Surely there was none like Ahab, who sold himself to do that which is evil in the eyes of YHWH, whom Jezebel his wife (ishah) incited.

And he acted very abominably in going after the idols, according to all that the Amorites did, whom YHWH dispossessed before the children of Israel.

And it came to pass, when Ahab heard these words, that he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh (basar), and fasted, and lay in the sackcloth, and went about softly.

And the word of YHWH came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying:

"Have you seen that Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; in the days of his son I will bring the evil upon his house."
