1And they dwelt three years; there was no war between Aram and Israel.
2And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.
3And the king of Israel said to his servants: "Do you know that Ramoth-gilead is ours, and we are keeping silent from taking it out of the hand of the king of Aram?"
4And he said to Jehoshaphat: "Will you go with me to battle to Ramoth-gilead?" And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel: "I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses."
5And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel: "Inquire, please, today, of the word of YHWH."
6And the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men (ish), and said to them: "Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?" And they said: "Go up; and my Lord (Adonai) will give it into the hand of the king."
7And Jehoshaphat said: "Is there not here yet a prophet of YHWH, that we may inquire of him?"
8And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat: "There is yet one man (ish) to inquire of YHWH from him; but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil—Micaiah the son of Imlah." And Jehoshaphat said: "Let not the king say so."
9And the king of Israel called a certain officer, and said: "Hurry, bring Micaiah the son of Imlah."
10And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting each man (ish) on his throne, clothed in robes, on a threshing-floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.
11And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made for himself horns of iron, and said: "Thus says YHWH: With these you shall gore Aram until you consume them."
12And all the prophets were prophesying so, saying: "Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper; and YHWH will give it into the hand of the king."
13And the messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying: "Behold now, the words of the prophets, with one mouth, are good to the king; let your word, please, be like the word of one of them, and speak good."
14And Micaiah said: "As YHWH lives (chai), surely what YHWH says to me, that I will speak."
15And he came to the king, and the king said to him: "Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we forbear?" And he said to him: "Go up, and prosper; and YHWH will give it into the hand of the king."
16And the king said to him: "How many times am I making you swear that you speak to me only truth in the name of YHWH?"
17And he said: "I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, like sheep that have no shepherd; and YHWH said: These have no masters; let them return each man (ish) to his house in peace."
18And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat: "Did I not say to you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?"
19And he said: "Therefore hear the word of YHWH: I saw YHWH sitting on his throne, and all the host of the heavens standing by him, on his right hand and on his left.
20And YHWH said: Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said in this manner, and another said in that manner.
21And the spirit (ruach) came forth and stood before YHWH, and said: I will entice him. And YHWH said to him: With what?
22And he said: I will go forth, and I will be a spirit (ruach) of falsehood in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said: You shall entice, and also you shall prevail; go forth, and do so.
23And now, behold, YHWH has put a spirit (ruach) of falsehood in the mouth of all these your prophets; and YHWH has spoken evil concerning you.
24And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said: "Which way did the spirit (ruach) of YHWH pass from me to speak to you?"
25And Micaiah said: "Behold, you shall see on that day, when you go from chamber to chamber to hide yourself."
26And the king of Israel said: "Take Micaiah, and bring him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son;
27and say: Thus says the king: Put this one in the house of the prison, and feed him bread of affliction and water of affliction, until I come in peace."
28And Micaiah said: "If you indeed return in peace, YHWH has not spoken by me." And he said: "Hear, O peoples, all of you."
29And the king of Israel went up, and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, to Ramoth-gilead.
30And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat: "Disguising myself, I will go into the battle; but you, put on your robes." And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.
31And the king of Aram had commanded (tzivvah) the captains of his chariots, the thirty and two, saying: "You shall not fight with small or great, but with the king of Israel alone."
32And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said: "Surely it is the king of Israel"; and they turned aside against him to fight; and Jehoshaphat cried out.
33And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from after him.
34And a man (ish) drew with the bow in his innocence, and struck the king of Israel between the joints and the coat of armor; and he said to his charioteer: "Turn your hand, and bring me out of the camp, for I am wounded."
35And the battle went up on that day; and the king was kept standing in the chariot opposite Aram, and he died in the evening; and the blood of the wound ran out into the bottom of the chariot.
36And the cry passed through the camp at the going down of the sun, saying: "Each man (ish) to his city, and each man (ish) to his land."
37And the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
38And he rinsed the chariot by the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked his blood, and the harlots bathed—according to the word of YHWH which he spoke.
39And the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the house of ivory which he built, and all the cities which he built, are they not written on the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
40And Ahab lay down with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.
41And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa reigned over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.
42Jehoshaphat was a son of thirty and five years when he reigned, and twenty and five years he reigned in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
43And he walked in all the way of Asa his father; he did not turn aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of YHWH.
44Only the high places were not removed; the people still were sacrificing and offering incense on the high places.
45And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.
46And the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might which he showed, and how he fought, are they not written on the book of the words of the days of the kings of Judah?
47And the rest of the cult-prostitutes who remained in the days of Asa his father, he purged from the land.
48And there was no king in Edom; a deputy was king.
49Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold; but they did not go, for the ships were broken at Ezion-geber.
50Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat: "Let my servants go with your servants in the ships." But Jehoshaphat was not willing.
51And Jehoshaphat lay down with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; and Jehoram his son reigned in his place.
52Ahaziah the son of Ahab reigned over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years.
53And he did that which was evil in the eyes of YHWH, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
54And he served (avad) Baal, and bowed himself down to him, and provoked YHWH, the God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.
