1And Solomon was ruling over all the kingdoms, from the River, the land of the Philistines, and as far as the border of Egypt; they were bringing tribute and serving (avad) Solomon all the days of his life (chai).
2And Solomon's bread for one day was thirty kor of fine flour, and sixty kor of meal,
3ten fat oxen, and twenty pasture oxen, and a hundred sheep, besides hart and gazelle and roebuck and fatted fowl.
4For he was ruling over all beyond the River, from Tiphsah to Gaza, over all the kings beyond the River; and peace he had on all sides round about.
5And Judah and Israel dwelt in safety, each man (ish) under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan to Beer-sheba, all the days of Solomon.
6And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.
7And those officers provided for king Solomon, and for all who came near to the table of king Solomon, each man (ish) in his month; they let nothing be lacking.
8And the barley and the straw for the horses and for the swift steeds they would bring to the place where it should be, each man (ish) according to his judgment (mishpat).
9And God gave wisdom to Solomon, and understanding exceedingly much, and breadth of heart, like the sand which is on the seashore.
10And the wisdom of Solomon was greater than the wisdom of all the sons of the east, and than all the wisdom of Egypt.
11And he was wiser than every man (adam), than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his name was in all the nations round about.
12And he spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs were a thousand and five.
13And he spoke concerning the trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that comes out in the wall; and he spoke concerning the beast, and concerning the bird, and concerning the creeping thing, and concerning the fishes.
14And there came from all the peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.
15And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, for he had heard that they had anointed him for king instead of his father; for Hiram had been a lover of David all the days.
16And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying:
17"You know David my father, that he was not able to build a house for the name of YHWH his God, because of the war which surrounded him, until YHWH put them under the soles of his feet.
18And now YHWH my God has given rest to me round about; there is no adversary, and no evil occurrence.
19And behold, I am saying to build a house for the name of YHWH my God, as YHWH spoke to David my father, saying, 'Your son whom I will set in your place upon your throne, he shall build the house for my name.'
20And now command (tzivvah) that they cut for me cedars from Lebanon; and my servants shall be with your servants; and the hire of your servants I will give to you according to all that you say; for you know that there is not among us a man (ish) knowing to cut timber like the Sidonians."
21And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, "Blessed be YHWH this day, who has given to David a wise son over this great people."
22And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, "I have heard that which you sent to me; I will do all your desire concerning timber of cedar and concerning timber of cypress.
23My servants shall bring down from Lebanon to the sea; and I will make them into rafts on the sea to the place which you appoint to me, and I will break them up there, and you shall carry them away; and you shall do my desire, to give food for my household."
24And Hiram was giving to Solomon timber of cedar and timber of cypress, all his desire.
25And Solomon gave to Hiram twenty thousand kor of wheat as food for his household, and twenty kor of beaten oil; thus Solomon gave to Hiram year by year.
26And YHWH gave wisdom to Solomon, as he had spoken to him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them cut a covenant (berit).
27And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men (ish).
28And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses; a month they were in Lebanon, two months at his house; and Adoniram was over the levy.
29And Solomon had seventy thousand bearing burdens, and eighty thousand hewing in the mountain,
30besides the chief officers of Solomon who were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, who ruled over the people doing the work.
31And the king commanded (tzivvah), and they quarried great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with hewn stones.
32And the builders of Solomon and the builders of Hiram and the Gebalites hewed; and they prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.
