And David said to his heart, "Now I shall be swept away one day by the hand of Saul; there is nothing good for me but that I should surely escape to the land of the Philistines, and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the border of Israel; and I shall escape out of his hand."
And David arose, and he passed over, he and the six hundred men (ish) who were with him, to Achish son of Maoch, king of Gath.
And David dwelt with Achish in Gath, he and his men (ish), each man (ish) and his household, David and his two wives (ishah), Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife (ishah) of Nabal the Carmelitess.
And it was told to Saul that David had fled to Gath, and he did not add again to seek him.
And David said to Achish, "If now I have found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in one of the cities of the field, that I may dwell there; for why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?"
And Achish gave him Ziklag in that day; therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah until this day.
And the number of the days that David dwelt in the field of the Philistines was a year and four months.
And David and his men (ish) went up, and they raided against the Geshurite, and the Gizrite, and the Amalekite; for they were the inhabitants of the land who were of old, as you come to Shur, even to the land of Egypt.
And David smote the land, and he did not keep alive man (ish) or woman (ishah); and he took sheep and oxen and donkeys and camels and garments, and he returned and came to Achish.
And Achish said, "Where did you raid today?" And David said, "Against the Negev of Judah, and against the Negev of the Jerahmeelite, and against the Negev of the Kenite."
And David did not keep alive man (ish) or woman (ishah), to bring them to Gath, saying, "Lest they should tell about us, saying, 'So did David.'" And such was his judgment (mishpat) all the days that he dwelt in the field of the Philistines.
And Achish trusted David, saying, "He has utterly made himself odious among his people, among Israel; therefore he shall be my servant forever."
