1And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place, for the band that came among the Arabians to the camp had slain all the elder ones. And Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.
2A son of forty and two years was Ahaziah when he became king, and one year he reigned in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah daughter of Omri.
3He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor to do wickedly.
4And he did the evil in the eyes of YHWH, like the house of Ahab, for they were counselors to him after the death of his father, to his destruction.
5Also in their counsel he walked, and he went with Jehoram son of Ahab king of Israel to the war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth-gilead. And the Arameans struck Joram.
6And he returned to be healed in Jezreel, for the wounds which they had struck him at Ramah when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. And Azariah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram son of Ahab in Jezreel, for he was sick.
7And from God was the downfall of Ahaziah, by coming to Joram. And in his coming he went out with Jehoram to Jehu son of Nimshi, whom YHWH had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.
8And it came to pass, when Jehu entered into judgment with the house of Ahab, that he found the princes of Judah and the sons of the brothers of Ahaziah, ministering to Ahaziah, and he slew them.
9And he sought Ahaziah, and they captured him, and he was hiding in Samaria, and they brought him to Jehu and put him to death, and they buried him; for they said, "He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought YHWH with all his heart." And there was none of the house of Ahaziah to retain power for the kingdom.
10And Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, and she arose and destroyed all the seed of the kingdom of the house of Judah.
11And Jehoshabeath the daughter of the king took Joash son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons who were being put to death, and put him and his nurse in the chamber of beds. So Jehoshabeath the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife (ishah) of Jehoiada the priest—for she was the sister of Ahaziah—hid him from before Athaliah, and she did not put him to death.
12And he was with them in the house of God, hiding, six years. And Athaliah was reigning over the land.
