2 Chronicles 23

Yeshua Literal Version (YLV)

1And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of the hundreds, Azariah son of Jeroham, and Ishmael son of Jehohanan, and Azariah son of Obed, and Maaseiah son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat son of Zichri, with him in the covenant (berit).

2And they went around in Judah, and gathered the Levites from all the cities of Judah, and the heads of the fathers for Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

3And all the assembly made a covenant (berit) in the house of God with the king. And he said to them, "Behold, the king's son shall reign, as YHWH has spoken concerning the sons of David.

4This is the thing that you shall do: a third of you who come in on the Shabbat, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be gatekeepers of the thresholds;

5and a third at the house of the king, and a third at the gate of the foundation; and all the people in the courts of the house of YHWH.

6And let none come into the house of YHWH except the priests and those ministering of the Levites; they shall come in, for they are holy; but all the people shall keep the charge (mishmeret) of YHWH.

7And the Levites shall surround the king all around, each man (ish) with his weapons in his hand; and whoever comes into the house shall be put to death; and be with the king in his coming in and in his going out.

8And the Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded (tzivvah); and they took each man (ish) his men (ish), those coming in on the Shabbat with those going out on the Shabbat; for Jehoiada the priest did not dismiss the divisions.

9And Jehoiada the priest gave to the captains of the hundreds the spears, and the bucklers, and the shields, that were king David's, which were in the house of God.

10And he set all the people, each man (ish) with his weapon in his hand, from the right shoulder of the house to the left shoulder of the house, by the altar and the house, around the king.

11And they brought out the king's son, and put upon him the crown and the testimony (edut), and made him king; and Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and they said, "Long live the king!"

12And Athaliah heard the sound of the people running and praising the king, and she came to the people, to the house of YHWH.

13And she looked, and behold, the king standing on his pillar at the entrance, and the captains and the trumpets by the king, and all the people of the land rejoicing and blowing with trumpets, and the singers with instruments of song and leading the praise. And Athaliah tore her garments and said, "Conspiracy! Conspiracy!"

14And Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of the hundreds, the overseers of the army, and said to them, "Bring her out from within the ranks, and whoever comes after her shall be put to death by the sword"; for the priest said, "You shall not put her to death in the house of YHWH."

15And they laid hands on her, and she came to the entrance of the horse gate of the king's house, and they put her to death there.

16And Jehoiada made a covenant (berit) between himself and between all the people and between the king, to be a people for YHWH.

17And all the people came to the house of Baal, and broke it down; and his altars and his images they shattered, and Mattan the priest of Baal they slew before the altars.

18And Jehoiada set the offices of the house of YHWH by the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had apportioned over the house of YHWH, to offer up the burnt-offerings of YHWH, as it is written in the Torah of Moses, with joy and with song, by the hands of David.

19And he set the gatekeepers at the gates of the house of YHWH, that no one unclean in any thing should enter.

20And he took the captains of the hundreds, and the nobles, and the rulers among the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of YHWH; and they came through the midst of the upper gate to the king's house, and seated the king on the throne of the kingdom.

21And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet; and Athaliah they had put to death by the sword.
