1And Josiah kept in Jerusalem a Passover to YHWH; and they offered the Passover (shachat) on the fourteenth of the first month.
2And he set the priests over their charges (mishmeret), and strengthened them for the service (avodah) of the house of YHWH.
3And he said to the Levites who instructed all Israel, who were holy to YHWH, "Put the holy ark in the house that Solomon son of David king of Israel built; there is no burden for you on the shoulder. Now serve (avad) YHWH your God, and His people Israel.
4And prepare by the house of your fathers, according to your divisions, in the writing of David king of Israel, and in the writing of Solomon his son.
5And stand in the holy place by the divisions of the fathers' house for your brethren, the sons of the people, and a portion of a father's house for the Levites.
6And offer the Passover (shachat), and sanctify yourselves, and prepare for your brethren, to do according to the word of YHWH by the hand of Moses."
7And Josiah lifted up for the sons of the people a flock — lambs and kids, all of them for the Passover-offerings, for all who were present — to the number of thirty thousand, and bulls three thousand; these were of the substance of the king.
8And his princes lifted up a freewill-offering for the people, for the priests, and for the Levites: Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel, the rulers of the house of God, gave to the priests for the Passover-offerings two thousand and six hundred, and bulls three hundred.
9And Conaniah, and Shemaiah and Nethanel his brethren, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, the chiefs of the Levites, lifted up for the Levites for the Passover-offerings five thousand, and bulls five hundred.
10And the service (avodah) was prepared, and the priests stood in their place, and the Levites by their divisions, according to the commandment (mitzvah) of the king.
11And they offered the Passover (shachat), and the priests dashed the blood from their hand, and the Levites were flaying.
12And they removed the burnt-offering, to give them to the divisions of the fathers' house for the sons of the people, to bring near to YHWH, as it is written in the book of Moses; and so for the bulls.
13And they cooked the Passover with fire according to the judgment (mishpat); and the holy things they boiled in pots, and in caldrons, and in pans, and ran them to all the sons of the people.
14And afterward they prepared for themselves and for the priests; because the priests, the sons of Aaron, were occupied in offering up the burnt-offering and the fat until night; therefore the Levites prepared for themselves and for the priests, the sons of Aaron.
15And the singers, the sons of Asaph, were at their station, according to the commandment (mitzvah) of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the seer of the king; and the gatekeepers were at every gate; they did not need to depart from their service (avodah), for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
16And all the service (avodah) of YHWH was prepared on that day, to keep the Passover, and to offer up burnt-offerings upon the altar of YHWH, according to the commandment (mitzvah) of king Josiah.
17And the children of Israel who were present kept the Passover at that time, and the feast (chag) of unleavened bread seven days.
18And there was no Passover kept like it in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; and none of the kings of Israel kept such a Passover as Josiah kept, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
19In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah was this Passover kept.
20After all this, when Josiah had prepared the house, Neco king of Egypt went up to fight against Carchemish by the Euphrates; and Josiah went out to meet him.
21And he sent to him messengers, saying, "What have I to do with you, king of Judah? Not against you yourself am I this day, but against the house of my war; and God said to hasten me. Cease from God who is with me, that He destroy you not."
22And Josiah did not turn his face from him, but disguised himself to fight against him, and did not listen to the words of Neco from the mouth of God; and he came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.
23And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, "Take me away, for I am sorely wounded."
24And his servants took him from the chariot, and made him ride in the second chariot that he had, and brought him to Jerusalem; and he died, and was buried in the graves of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem were mourning over Josiah.
25And Jeremiah lamented over Josiah; and all the singing men and the singing women have spoken in their laments over Josiah to this day, and made them a statute (choq) over Israel; and behold, they are written upon the laments.
26And the rest of the acts of Josiah, and his kind deeds, according to that which is written in the Torah of YHWH,
27and his acts, the first and the last, behold, they are written upon the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
