1Then Solomon said, "YHWH has said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
2And I, I have built a house of habitation for you, and a settled place for your dwelling forever."
3And the king turned his face, and blessed all the assembly of Israel; and all the assembly of Israel was standing.
4And he said, "Blessed be YHWH, the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David my father, and with his hands has fulfilled it, saying:
5'From the day that I brought out my people from the land of Egypt, I did not choose in a city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house for my name to be there, and I did not choose in a man (ish) to be ruler over my people Israel;
6but I chose in Jerusalem for my name to be there, and I chose in David to be over my people Israel.'
7And it was with the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of YHWH, the God of Israel.
8And YHWH said to David my father, 'Because it was with your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was with your heart;
9only you, you shall not build the house, but your son who comes out from your loins, he shall build the house for my name.'
10And YHWH has established his word that he spoke, and I have risen up in place of David my father, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as YHWH spoke, and I have built the house for the name of YHWH, the God of Israel.
11And I have set there the ark, where there is the covenant (berit) of YHWH that he cut with the sons of Israel."
12And he stood before the altar of YHWH, in front of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his palms —
13for Solomon had made a basin of bronze, and had put it in the midst of the court — five cubits its length, and five cubits its breadth, and three cubits its height — and he stood upon it, and knelt upon his knees in front of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his palms toward the heavens.
14And he said, "YHWH, God of Israel, there is no God like you in the heavens and on the earth, keeping the covenant (berit) and the lovingkindness for your servants who walk before you with all their heart;
15who have kept for your servant David my father that which you spoke to him; and you spoke with your mouth, and with your hand you have fulfilled it, as this day.
16And now, YHWH, God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father that which you spoke to him, saying, 'There shall not be cut off to you a man (ish) from before me sitting on the throne of Israel, only if your sons take heed to their way, to walk in my Torah as you have walked before me.'
17And now, YHWH, God of Israel, let your word be confirmed, which you spoke to your servant, to David.
18For will God truly dwell with the man (adam) on the earth? Behold, the heavens and the heavens of the heavens cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built!
19And you shall turn to the prayer of your servant and to his supplication, YHWH my God, to hear the cry and the prayer that your servant prays before you;
20for your eyes to be open toward this house day and night, toward the place that you said to put your name there; to hear the prayer that your servant prays toward this place.
21And you shall hear the supplications of your servant and of your people Israel, that they shall pray toward this place; and you, you shall hear from the place of your dwelling, from the heavens, and you shall hear and forgive.
22If a man (ish) sins against his neighbor, and he lifts up upon him an oath to cause him to swear, and the oath comes before your altar in this house;
23then you, you shall hear from the heavens, and do, and judge your servants, to bring back upon the wicked, to give his way upon his head, and to declare righteous the righteous, to give to him according to his righteousness.
24And if your people Israel is struck before an enemy because they sin against you, and they turn back and confess your name, and pray and make supplication before you in this house;
25then you, you shall hear from the heavens, and forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bring them back to the ground (adamah) that you gave to them and to their fathers.
26When the heavens are restrained and there is no rain because they sin against you, and they pray toward this place and confess your name, from their sin they turn because you afflict them;
27then you, you shall hear the heavens, and forgive the sin of your servants and your people Israel, for you teach them the good way in which they should walk; and give rain upon your land that you gave to your people for an inheritance.
28Famine, if it is in the land; pestilence, if it is; blasting and mildew, locust and caterpillar, if it is; when his enemies besiege him in the land of his gates — any plague, any sickness —
29any prayer, any supplication that there is for any man (adam), or for all your people Israel, who shall know each man (ish) his own plague and his pain, and spreads out his palms toward this house;
30then you, you shall hear from the heavens, the place of your dwelling, and forgive, and give to the man (ish) according to all his ways, whose heart you know — for you, you alone, know the heart of the sons of the man (adam) —
31so that they fear you, to walk in your ways all the days that they are living (chai) upon the face of the ground (adamah) that you gave to our fathers.
32And also to the foreigner who is not of your people Israel, but comes from a far land for the sake of your great name and your strong hand and your outstretched arm — and they come and pray toward this house;
33then you, you shall hear from the heavens, from the place of your dwelling, and do according to all that the foreigner calls to you for; so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name, and to fear you as your people Israel, and to know that your name is called over this house that I have built.
34When your people go out to the battle against their enemies in the way that you send them, and they pray to you toward this city that you have chosen, and the house that I have built for your name;
35then you shall hear from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and you shall do their judgment (mishpat).
36When they sin against you — for there is no man (adam) who does not sin — and you are angry with them, and give them before an enemy, and their captors carry them captive to a land far off or near;
37and they bring it back to their heart in the land where they were taken captive, and they turn and make supplication to you in the land of their captivity, saying, 'We have sinned, we have done iniquity, and we have done wickedly';
38and they return to you with all their heart and with all their soul (nephesh) in the land of their captivity, where they took them captive, and they pray toward their land that you gave to their fathers, and the city that you have chosen, and toward the house that I have built for your name;
39then you shall hear from the heavens, from the place of your dwelling, their prayer and their supplications, and you shall do their judgment (mishpat); and forgive your people who have sinned against you.
40Now, my God, let, please, your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayer of this place.
41And now, arise, YHWH God, to your resting place, you and the ark of your strength; let your priests, YHWH God, be clothed with salvation, and let your faithful ones rejoice in good.
42YHWH God, do not turn away the face of your anointed; remember the lovingkindnesses of David your servant."
