And Elisha the prophet called to one of the sons of the prophets, and said to him: "Gird your loins, and take this flask of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead.
And you shall come there, and see there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and you shall go in, and make him arise from among his brothers, and bring him to a chamber within a chamber.
And you shall take the flask of oil, and pour it on his head, and say: Thus says YHWH: I have anointed you for king over Israel. And you shall open the door, and flee, and not wait."
And the young man went, the young man the prophet, to Ramoth-gilead.
And he came, and behold, the captains of the army were sitting; and he said: "I have a word for you, O captain." And Jehu said: "To which of all of us?" And he said: "To you, O captain."
And he arose, and came into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said to him: "Thus says YHWH, the God of Israel: I have anointed you for king over the people of YHWH, over Israel.
And you shall strike the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of YHWH, from the hand of Jezebel.
And the whole house of Ahab shall perish; and I will cut off from Ahab every one urinating against a wall, and the one shut up and the one forsaken in Israel.
And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah.
And Jezebel the dogs shall eat in the portion of Jezreel, and there is none burying her." And he opened the door, and fled.
And Jehu went out to the servants of his master, and one said to him: "Is it peace? Why did this madman come to you?" And he said to them: "You know the man (ish) and his talk."
And they said: "Falsehood! Tell us now." And he said: "Like this and like this he said to me, saying: Thus says YHWH: I have anointed you for king over Israel."
And they hastened, and took each man (ish) his garment, and put it under him on the bare steps, and blew the shofar, and said: "Jehu reigns!"
And Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. Now Joram had been guarding Ramoth-gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Aram;
but Joram the king had returned to be healed in Jezreel from the wounds which the Arameans had struck him when he fought with Hazael king of Aram. And Jehu said: "If it is your soul (nephesh), let not an escapee go out from the city, to go to tell it in Jezreel."
And Jehu rode, and went to Jezreel, for Joram was lying there; and Ahaziah king of Judah had come down to see Joram.
And the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he saw the company of Jehu as he came, and said: "I see a company." And Joram said: "Take a horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say: Is it peace?"
And the rider of the horse went to meet him, and said: "Thus says the king: Is it peace?" And Jehu said: "What is it to you and to peace? Turn behind me." And the watchman told, saying: "The messenger came to them, and has not returned."
And he sent a second rider of horse, and he came to them, and said: "Thus says the king: Is it peace?" And Jehu said: "What is it to you and to peace? Turn behind me."
And the watchman told, saying: "He came up to them, and has not returned; and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives in madness."
And Joram said: "Bind!" And he bound his chariot. And Joram king of Israel went out, and Ahaziah king of Judah, each man (ish) in his chariot, and they went out to meet Jehu, and found him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite.
And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said: "Is it peace, Jehu?" And he said: "What peace, while the harlotries of Jezebel your mother and her many witchcrafts are so many?"
And Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah: "Treachery, O Ahaziah!"
And Jehu filled his hand with the bow, and struck Joram between his arms, and the arrow went out from his heart, and he sank down in his chariot.
And he said to Bidkar his officer: "Lift, cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember—I and you riding in pairs after Ahab his father, and YHWH lifted upon him this burden:
Surely the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons I saw yesterday, declares YHWH; and I will repay you in this portion, declares YHWH. And now lift, cast him in the portion, according to the word of YHWH."
And Ahaziah king of Judah saw, and fled the way of the garden house. And Jehu pursued after him, and said: "Strike him also!"—in the chariot, at the ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.
And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his grave with his fathers in the city of David.
And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab, Ahaziah reigned over Judah.
And Jehu came to Jezreel; and Jezebel heard, and she put her eyes in paint, and made her head good, and looked out through the window.
And Jehu came in at the gate, and she said: "Is it peace, Zimri, slayer of his master?"
And he lifted up his face to the window, and said: "Who is with me? Who?" And two or three officials looked out to him.
And he said: "Drop her!" And they dropped her, and some of her blood spattered on the wall, and on the horses; and he trampled her.
And he came in, and ate, and drank, and said: "Attend now to this cursed woman, and bury her, for she is a king's daughter."
And they went to bury her, and they did not find of her except the skull, and the feet, and the palms of the hands.
And they returned, and told him; and he said: "It is the word of YHWH, which he spoke by the hand of his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying: In the portion of Jezreel the dogs shall eat the flesh (basar) of Jezebel;
and the carcass of Jezebel shall be as dung on the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, so that they shall not say: This is Jezebel."
