1And they journeyed from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their going out from the land of Egypt.
2And all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness.
3And the children of Israel said to them: "Would that we had died by the hand of YHWH in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pot of flesh (basar), when we ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger."
4And YHWH said to Moses: "Behold, I am raining for you bread from the heavens; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion in its day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My Torah, or not.
5And it shall come to pass on the sixth day that they shall prepare what they bring in, and it shall be double upon what they gather day by day."
6And Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel: "At evening, then you shall know that YHWH has brought you out from the land of Egypt;
7and in the morning, then you shall see the glory of YHWH, when He hears your murmurings against YHWH; and what are we, that you murmur against us?"
8And Moses said: "When YHWH gives you in the evening flesh (basar) to eat, and bread in the morning to the full, when YHWH hears your murmurings which you murmur against Him — and what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against YHWH."
9And Moses said to Aaron: "Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel: Come near before YHWH, for He has heard your murmurings."
10And it came to pass, as Aaron spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, that they turned toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of YHWH appeared in the cloud.
11And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying:
12"I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying: Between the evenings you shall eat flesh (basar), and in the morning you shall be satisfied with bread; and you shall know that I am YHWH your God."
13And it came to pass at evening, that the quail came up and covered the camp; and in the morning there was a layer of dew round about the camp.
14And the layer of dew went up, and behold, upon the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as the frost upon the earth.
15And the children of Israel saw it, and they said a man (ish) to his brother: "What is it?" for they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them: "It is the bread which YHWH has given you to eat.
16This is the thing which YHWH has commanded (tzivvah): Gather of it, each man (ish) according to his eating, an omer for a head, according to the number of your souls (nephesh); each man (ish) for those who are in his tent (ohel) you shall take."
17And the children of Israel did so, and they gathered, the one much and the one little.
18And they measured with the omer, and he who gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack; each man (ish) according to his eating they gathered.
19And Moses said to them: "Let no man (ish) leave any of it until the morning."
20But they did not listen to Moses, and some men (ish) left of it until the morning, and it bred worms and stank; and Moses was angry with them.
21And they gathered it morning by morning, each man (ish) according to his eating; and when the sun grew hot, it melted.
22And it came to pass on the sixth day that they gathered double bread, two omers for one; and all the princes of the congregation came and told Moses.
23And he said to them: "This is what YHWH has spoken: Tomorrow is a Shabbaton, a Shabbat of holiness to YHWH. What you will bake, bake, and what you will boil, boil; and all that is left over lay up for yourselves as a charge (mishmeret) until the morning."
24And they laid it up ad(עד) the morning, as Moses commanded (tzivvah), and it did not stink, nor was there a worm in it.
25And Moses said: "Eat it today, for today is a Shabbat to YHWH; today you shall not find it in the field.
26Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day is a Shabbat; in it there shall be none."
27And it came to pass on the seventh day that some of the people went out to gather, and they found none.
28And YHWH said to Moses: "How long do you refuse to keep My commandments (mitzvah) and My Torah?
29See, for YHWH has given you the Shabbat; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days; abide each man (ish) in his place, let no man (ish) go out from his place on the seventh day."
30And the people shabbatted on the seventh day.
31And the house of Israel called its name Manna; and it was like coriander seed, white, and its taste was like wafers with honey.
32And Moses said: "This is the thing which YHWH has commanded (tzivvah): Let a full omer of it be kept as a charge (mishmeret) for your generations, that they may see the bread which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out from the land of Egypt."
33And Moses said to Aaron: "Take one jar, and put there a full omer of manna, and lay it up before YHWH as a charge (mishmeret) for your generations."
34As YHWH commanded (tzivvah) Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony (edut) as a charge (mishmeret).
35And the children of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate the manna until they came to the edge of the land of Canaan.
36Now the omer is the tenth part of an ephah.
