1And he said to me, "Son of man (adam), what you find, eat; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel."
2And I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that scroll.
3And he said to me, "Son of man (adam), cause your belly to eat, and fill your bowels with this scroll that I am giving you." And I ate it, and it was in my mouth like honey for sweetness.
4And he said to me, "Son of man (adam), go, come to the house of Israel, and speak with my words to them.
5For not to a people deep of lip and heavy of tongue are you sent—to the house of Israel,
6not to many peoples deep of lip and heavy of tongue, whose words you cannot hear. Surely, had I sent you to them, they would hear you.
7But the house of Israel will not be willing to hear you, for they are not willing to hear me; for all the house of Israel are strong of forehead and hard of heart.
8Behold, I have made your face hard against their faces, and your forehead hard against their foreheads.
9Like adamant, harder than flint, I have made your forehead; do not fear them, and do not be dismayed at their faces, for they are a house of rebellion."
10And he said to me, "Son of man (adam), all my words that I shall speak to you, take in your heart, and with your ears hear.
11And go, come to the exile, to the sons of your people, and speak to them, and say to them, 'Thus says my Lord (Adonai) YHWH,' whether they hear or whether they forbear."
12And a spirit (ruach) lifted me up, and I heard behind me the sound of a great rushing: "Blessed be the glory of YHWH from his place";
13and the sound of the wings of the living creatures (chai) touching a woman (ishah) to her sister, and the sound of the wheels alongside them, and the sound of a great rushing.
14And a spirit (ruach) lifted me up and took me; and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit (ruach); and the hand of YHWH was strong upon me.
15And I came to the exile at Tel-abib, those dwelling by the river Chebar, and I sat where they were dwelling; and I sat there seven days, appalled in their midst.
16And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of YHWH came to me, saying:
17"Son of man (adam), I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel; and you shall hear a word from my mouth, and you shall warn them from me.
18When I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die,' and you do not warn him, and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to keep him alive—that wicked one shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require from your hand.
19But you, if you have warned the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness and from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your soul (nephesh).
20And when a righteous one turns from his righteousness and does iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die; because you did not warn him, he shall die in his sin, and his righteous deeds that he did shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require from your hand.
21But you, if you have warned the righteous one that the righteous should not sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live, because he was warned; and you have delivered your soul (nephesh)."
22And the hand of YHWH was upon me there, and he said to me, "Arise, go out to the valley, and there I will speak with you."
23And I arose and went out to the valley, and behold, the glory of YHWH was standing there, like the glory that I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell upon my face.
24And a spirit (ruach) entered into me and set me upon my feet; and he spoke with me and said to me, "Go, shut yourself within your house.
25And you, son of man (adam), behold, they will put cords upon you, and they will bind you with them, and you shall not go out among them.
26And your tongue I will make cleave to your palate, and you shall be dumb, and you shall not be to them a man (ish) reproving; for they are a house of rebellion.
27But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, 'Thus says my Lord (Adonai) YHWH'; he who hears, let him hear, and he who forbears, let him forbear; for they are a house of rebellion.
