And it came to pass in the sixth year, in the sixth month, in the fifth of the month, I was sitting in my house, and the elders of Judah were sitting before me, that the hand of my Lord (Adonai) YHWH fell there upon me.
And I saw, and behold, a likeness as the appearance of fire: from the appearance of his loins and downward, fire; and from his loins and upward, as the appearance of brightness, as the gleam of electrum.
And he put forth the form of a hand, and took me by a lock of my head; and a spirit (ruach) lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me to Jerusalem in visions of God, to the door of the inner gate that faces northward, where there was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provokes to jealousy.
And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, according to the appearance that I saw in the plain.
And he said to me: "Son of man (adam), lift up now your eyes the way toward the north." So I lifted up my eyes the way toward the north, and behold, northward of the gate of the altar, this image of jealousy in the entrance.
And he said to me: "Son of man (adam), do you see what they are doing? the great abominations that the house of Israel are doing here, to drive me far off from my sanctuary? But again you shall yet see greater abominations."
And he brought me to the door of the court; and I looked, and behold, a hole in the wall.
And he said to me: "Son of man (adam), dig now in the wall." And I dug in the wall, and behold, a door.
And he said to me: "Go in, and see the wicked abominations that they are doing here."
And I went in and saw, and behold, every form of creeping thing and beast, a detestable thing, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall all around.
And seventy men (ish) of the elders of the house of Israel, and Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan standing in their midst, standing before them, and each man (ish) with his censer in his hand; and the thick cloud of incense going up.
And he said to me: "Have you seen, son of man (adam), what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each man (ish) in his chambers of imagery? for they say: YHWH does not see us, YHWH has forsaken the land."
And he said to me: "Again you shall yet see greater abominations which they are doing."
And he brought me to the door of the gate of the house of YHWH which was toward the north; and behold, there the women (ishah) were sitting, weeping for Tammuz.
And he said to me: "Have you seen this, son of man (adam)? Again you shall yet see greater abominations than these."
And he brought me to the inner court of the house of YHWH, and behold, at the door of the temple of YHWH, between the porch and the altar, about twenty-five men (ish), their backs toward the temple of YHWH, and their faces eastward; and they were bowing down eastward to the sun.
And he said to me: "Have you seen, son of man (adam)? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah to do the abominations that they have done here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me; and behold, they are putting the branch to their nose.
And I also will deal in fury; my eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity; and though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them."
