1The word of YHWH that came to Hosea son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel.
2The beginning of YHWH's speaking by Hosea. And YHWH said to Hosea: "Go, take to yourself a wife (ishah) of harlotries and children of harlotries, for the land surely commits harlotry away from after YHWH."
3And he went and took Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.
4And YHWH said to him: "Call his name Jezreel, for yet a little while and I will visit the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and I will make the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease.
5And it shall be in that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel."
6And she conceived again and bore a daughter. And he said to him: "Call her name Lo-ruhamah, for I will no more again have compassion on the house of Israel, for I will utterly take them away.
7But the house of Judah I will have compassion on, and I will save them by YHWH their God; and I will not save them by bow, or by sword, or by battle, by horses, or by horsemen."
8And she weaned Lo-ruhamah, and she conceived and bore a son.
9And he said: "Call his name Lo-ammi, for you are not my people, and I will not be yours."
