The burden of Moab. For in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, it is brought to ruin; for in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste, it is brought to ruin.
He has gone up to the house (Bayith), and Dibon, to the high places, to weep; over Nebo and over Medeba Moab howls; on all their heads is baldness, every beard is cut off.
In their streets they have girded on sackcloth; on their housetops and in their broad places everyone howls, going down in weeping.
And Heshbon cries out, and Elealeh; their voice is heard as far as Jahaz; therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud; his soul (nephesh) is faint within him.
My heart cries out for Moab; her fugitives flee as far as Zoar, a heifer of three years; for the ascent of Luhith, with weeping he goes up by it; for the way of Horonaim, a cry of destruction they raise up.
For the waters of Nimrim are desolations; for the grass is withered, the herbage is finished, there is no green thing.
Therefore the abundance he has made, and their stored-up things, over the brook of the willows they carry them away.
For the cry has gone round the border of Moab; as far as Eglaim its howling, and to Beer-elim its howling.
For the waters of Dimon are full of blood; for I will set upon Dimon additions, for the escaped of Moab a lion, and for the remnant of the ground (adamah).
