1In those days Hezekiah was sick to death. And Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet came to him and said to him, "Thus says YHWH: Command (tzivvah) your house, for you are dying and shall not live."
2And Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to YHWH,
3and said, "Ah, YHWH, remember now how I have walked before You in truth and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in Your eyes." And Hezekiah wept a great weeping.
4And the word of YHWH came to Isaiah, saying:
5"Go and say to Hezekiah, 'Thus says YHWH, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears. Behold, I am adding to your days fifteen years.
6And from the hand of the king of Assyria I will deliver you and this city, and I will defend over this city.'
7And this is the sign (ot) for you from YHWH, that YHWH will do this thing that He has spoken:
8Behold, I am bringing back the shadow of the steps, which has gone down on the steps of Ahaz by the sun, backward ten steps." And the sun went back ten steps, by the steps which it had gone down.
9The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he was sick and recovered from his sickness.
10I said, in the cutting off of my days I shall go to the gates of Sheol; I am deprived of the rest of my years.
11I said, I shall not see Yah, Yah in the land of the living (chai); I shall not look upon man (adam) anymore with the inhabitants of the world.
12My generation has been pulled up and removed from me like a shepherd's tent; I have rolled up my life (chai) like a weaver; He cuts me off from the loom; from day to night You will make an end of me.
13I have set myself until morning; like the lion, so He breaks all my bones; from day to night You will make an end of me.
14Like a swift, a crane, so I chirp; I moan like the dove; my eyes are weak toward the height. My Lord (Adonai), I am oppressed; be my surety.
15What shall I speak? For He has both spoken to me, and He Himself has done it; I shall walk softly all my years upon the bitterness of my soul (nephesh).
16My Lord (Adonai), upon these things they live, and in all of them is the life (chai) of my spirit (ruach); and You restore me to health and make me live.
17Behold, for peace I had great bitterness; but You loved my soul (nephesh) from the pit of destruction, for You have cast behind Your back all my sins.
18For Sheol cannot thank You, death cannot praise You; those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your truth.
19The living (chai), the living (chai), he thanks You, as I do this day; the father makes known to the children Your truth.
20YHWH is to save me, and we will play my songs on stringed instruments all the days of our life (chai) at the house of YHWH.
21And Isaiah said, "Let them take a cake of figs and rub it upon the boil, and he shall recover."
22And Hezekiah said, "What is the sign (ot) that I shall go up to the house of YHWH?"
