Come down and sit on the dust (aphar), O virgin daughter of Babylon; sit on the ground, without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans; for you shall no longer be called tender and delicate.
Take the millstones and grind flour; uncover your veil, strip off the train, uncover the leg, pass over the rivers.
Your nakedness shall be uncovered, yes, your shame shall be seen; I will take vengeance, and I will not meet a man (adam).
Our Redeemer, YHWH of hosts (tzevaot) is his name, the Holy One of Israel.
Sit silent, and go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; for you shall no longer be called the mistress of kingdoms.
I was angry with my people, I profaned my inheritance, and I gave them into your hand; you showed them no mercy; upon the aged you made your yoke very heavy.
And you said, "Forever I shall be a mistress," so that you did not lay these things to your heart, you did not remember its end.
And now hear this, O voluptuous one, who sits securely, who says in her heart, "I am, and there is none else besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, and I shall not know loss of children."
But these two shall come to you in a moment, in one day: loss of children and widowhood; in their fullness they shall come upon you, despite the multitude of your sorceries, despite the great abundance of your enchantments.
And you trusted in your wickedness; you said, "None sees me"; your wisdom and your knowledge, it has turned you away; and you said in your heart, "I am, and there is none else besides me."
But evil shall come upon you—you shall not know its dawning; and calamity shall fall upon you—you shall not be able to atone it away; and ruin shall come upon you suddenly, which you do not know.
Stand now with your enchantments, and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth; perhaps you will be able to profit, perhaps you will inspire terror.
You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels; let them stand now and save (yasha) you—the dividers of the heavens, the gazers at the stars, who make known at the new moons—from what shall come upon you.
Behold, they are like stubble; the fire has burned them; they cannot deliver their soul (nephesh) from the hand of the flame; it is not a coal to warm at, a fire to sit before.
So they have become to you, those with whom you have labored, your traders from your youth; each man (ish) to his own quarter they wander; there is none to save (yasha) you.
