Hear this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and from the waters of Judah came forth; who swear by the name of YHWH, and of the God of Israel make mention, but not in truth nor in righteousness.
For from the holy city they are called, and on the God of Israel they lean; YHWH of hosts (tzevaot) is his name.
The former things from of old I declared; and from my mouth they went forth, and I made them heard; suddenly I did them, and they came to pass.
Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your brow bronze;
and I declared it to you from of old; before it came I made you hear it, lest you should say, "My idol did them, and my carved image and my molten image commanded (tzivvah) them."
You have heard; see all this; and you, will you not declare it? I have made you hear new things from now, and hidden things you have not known.
Now they are created, and not from of old; and before the day, you have not heard them, lest you should say, "Behold, I knew them."
Yes, you have not heard; yes, you have not known; yes, from of old your ear was not opened; for I knew that you would deal very treacherously, and a transgressor from the womb you were called.
For the sake of my name I defer my anger, and for my praise I restrain it for you, so as not to cut you off.
Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction.
For my own sake, for my own sake, I will do it; for how should it be profaned? And my glory I will not give to another.
Listen to me, O Jacob, and Israel my called: I am he; I am the first, also I am the last.
Also my hand founded the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; I call to them, they stand up together.
Gather, all of you, and hear: who among them declared these things? YHWH loves him; he shall do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm on the Chaldeans.
I, I have spoken; yes, I have called him; I have brought him, and he shall prosper his way.
Come near to me, hear this: from the first I have not spoken in secret; from the time it was, there am I; and now my Lord (Adonai) YHWH has sent me, and his spirit (ruach).
Thus says YHWH, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am YHWH your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.
Oh that you had hearkened to my commandments (mitzvot)! Then your peace would have been like the river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea;
and your seed would have been like the sand, and the offspring of your bowels like its grains; his name would not be cut off, nor destroyed, from before me.
Go forth from Babylon, flee from the Chaldeans! With a voice of singing declare, proclaim this, send it forth to the end of the earth; say, "YHWH has redeemed his servant Jacob."
And they did not thirst when he led them through the wastelands; he caused water to flow for them from the rock; he split the rock, and the waters gushed out.
There is no peace, says YHWH, for the wicked.
