as fire kindles brushwood, as fire makes water boil, to make your name known to your adversaries, that the nations might tremble before you—
when you did awesome things that we did not expect, you came down, the mountains quaked before you.
And from of old they have not heard, they have not given ear, eye has not seen a God besides you, who acts for the one who waits for him.
You meet the one who rejoices and does righteousness, those who remember you in your ways. Behold, you were angry, and we sinned; in them we have continued of old, and we shall be saved (yasha).
And we have all become like the unclean, and all our righteousnesses like a filthy garment; and we all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the spirit (ruach), carry us away.
And there is none who calls on your name, who rouses himself to take hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us, and have melted us by the hand of our iniquities.
And now, YHWH, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter, and the work of your hand are we all.
Do not be angry, YHWH, exceedingly, and do not remember iniquity forever. Behold, look, please, your people are we all.
The cities of your holiness have become a wilderness; Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.
The house of our holiness and our glory, where our fathers praised you, has become a burning of fire, and all our precious things have become a ruin.
Will you restrain yourself over these things, YHWH? Will you keep silent and afflict us exceedingly?
