1I let myself be sought by those who did not ask; I let myself be found by those who did not seek me. I said, "Behold me, behold me," to a nation not called by my name.
2I have spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people, who walk in the way not good, after their own thoughts—
3the people who provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in the gardens and burning incense upon the bricks;
4who sit among the graves and lodge in the secret places, who eat the flesh (basar) of swine, and broth of foul things is in their vessels;
5who say, "Keep to yourself, do not come near me, for I am holier than you." These are smoke in my nose, a fire burning all the day.
6Behold, it is written before me; I will not keep silent, but I will repay, and I will repay into their bosom—
7your iniquities and the iniquities of your fathers together, says YHWH, who burned incense upon the mountains and reproached me upon the hills; and I will measure their former work into their bosom.
8Thus says YHWH: As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one says, "Do not destroy it, for a blessing is in it," so will I do for the sake of my servants, that I may not destroy the whole.
9And I will bring forth from Jacob a seed, and from Judah an heir of my mountains; and my chosen ones shall possess it, and my servants shall dwell there.
10And Sharon shall become a habitation of flocks, and the valley of Achor a resting place of herds, for my people who have sought me.
11But you who forsake YHWH, who forget my holy mountain, who set a table for Gad and who fill mixed wine for Meni—
12I will destine you to the sword, and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter; because I called and you did not answer, I spoke and you did not hear, but you did the evil in my eyes, and chose that in which I did not delight.
13Therefore thus says my Lord (Adonai) YHWH: Behold, my servants shall eat, but you shall hunger; behold, my servants shall drink, but you shall thirst; behold, my servants shall rejoice, but you shall be ashamed;
14behold, my servants shall sing from goodness of heart, but you shall cry out from pain of heart, and from brokenness of spirit (ruach) you shall wail.
15And you shall leave your name for a curse to my chosen, and my Lord (Adonai) YHWH shall put you to death; but his servants he shall call by another name;
16so that he who blesses himself in the land shall bless himself by the God of Amen, and he who swears in the land shall swear by the God of Amen, because the former troubles are forgotten and because they are hidden from my eyes.
17For behold, I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered, nor come up on the heart.
18But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I am creating; for behold, I am creating Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.
19And I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people; and there shall no more be heard in her the voice of weeping and the voice of crying.
20There shall be no more from there an infant of days, nor an old man who does not fill his days; for the youth, a son of a hundred years, shall die, and the sinner, a son of a hundred years, shall be cursed.
21And they shall build houses and dwell in them, and they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
22They shall not build and another dwell; they shall not plant and another eat; for as the days of the tree shall be the days of my people, and the work of their hands my chosen ones shall long enjoy.
23They shall not labor in vain, nor bring forth for sudden terror; for they are the seed of the blessed of YHWH, and their offspring with them.
24And it shall come to pass, before they call, I will answer; while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
25The wolf and the lamb shall feed as one, and the lion like the ox shall eat straw, and the serpent—dust (aphar) is his bread. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, says YHWH.
