1Thus says YHWH: The heavens are my throne, and the earth is the footstool of my feet. Where is this house that you would build for me, and where is this place of my rest?
2And all these my hand has made, and all these came to be, declares YHWH. But to this one I will look: to the humble and contrite of spirit (ruach), and trembling at my word.
3He who slaughters the ox strikes a man (ish); he who sacrifices the lamb breaks a dog's neck; he who offers up a grain offering offers swine's blood; he who burns frankincense as a memorial blesses iniquity. Indeed, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul (nephesh) delights in their abominations.
4I too will choose their abuses, and their terrors I will bring upon them; because I called and there was none answering, I spoke and they did not hear, but they did the evil in my eyes, and chose that in which I did not delight.
5Hear the word of YHWH, you who tremble at his word: Your brethren who hate you, who cast you out for the sake of my name, have said, "Let YHWH be glorified, that we may see your joy"—but they shall be ashamed.
6A voice of uproar from the city, a voice from the temple, the voice of YHWH rendering recompense to his enemies.
7Before she travailed, she gave birth; before pain came to her, she delivered a male.
8Who has heard such as this? Who has seen such things? Is a land brought forth in one day? Is a nation born at one time? For as soon as Zion travailed, she also gave birth to her children.
9"Shall I bring to the birth and not cause to deliver?" says YHWH. "Or shall I who cause to deliver shut the womb?" says your God.
10Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad in her, all you who love her; rejoice with her a rejoicing, all you who mourn over her—
11that you may nurse and be satisfied from the breast of her consolations, that you may drink deeply and take delight from the abundance of her glory.
12For thus says YHWH: Behold, I am extending to her peace like a river, and like an overflowing stream the glory of the nations; and you shall nurse, on the side you shall be carried, and upon the knees you shall be dandled.
13As a man (ish) whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; and in Jerusalem you shall be comforted.
14And you shall see, and your heart shall rejoice, and your bones like the tender grass shall flourish; and the hand of YHWH shall be made known to his servants, and he shall be indignant against his enemies.
15For behold, YHWH will come in fire, and like the whirlwind his chariots, to render his anger in fury, and his rebuke in flames of fire.
16For by fire YHWH will enter into judgment, and by his sword, with all flesh (basar); and many shall be the slain of YHWH.
17Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves toward the gardens, behind one in the midst, who eat the flesh (basar) of swine and the detestable thing and the mouse, together they shall come to an end, declares YHWH.
18And I—their works and their thoughts—the time is coming to gather all the nations and the tongues; and they shall come and see my glory.
19And I will set among them a sign (ot), and I will send from them survivors to the nations—Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, who draw the bow, Tubal and Javan, the distant coastlands—who have not heard my fame nor seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the nations.
20And they shall bring all your brethren from all the nations as an offering to YHWH, on horses and in chariots and in litters and on mules and on dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says YHWH, as the children of Israel bring the offering in a clean vessel to the house of YHWH.
21And also from them I will take for the priests, for the Levites, says YHWH.
22For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I am making, stand before me, declares YHWH, so shall your seed and your name stand.
23And it shall come to pass, from new moon to new moon, and from Shabbat to Shabbat, all flesh (basar) shall come to worship before me, says YHWH.
24And they shall go out and look at the corpses of the men (ish) who rebelled against me; for their worm shall not die, and their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh (basar).
