Jeremiah 35

Yeshua Literal Version (YLV)

The word which came to Jeremiah from YHWH in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying:

Go to the house of the Rechabites, and you shall speak to them, and bring them to the house of YHWH, to one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.

And I took Jaazaniah son of Jeremiah, son of Habazziniah, and his brothers, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

and I brought them to the house of YHWH, to the chamber of the sons of Hanan son of Igdaliah, the man (ish) of God, which was beside the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah son of Shallum, keeper of the threshold;

and I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups, and I said to them: Drink wine.

But they said: We will not drink wine; for Jonadab son of Rechab, our father, commanded (tzivvah) us, saying: You shall not drink wine, you nor your sons, forever;

and you shall not build a house, and you shall not sow seed, and you shall not plant a vineyard, nor have any; but in tents you shall dwell all your days, so that you may live many days upon the face of the ground (adamah) where you sojourn.

And we have listened to the voice of Jonadab son of Rechab, our father, in all that he commanded (tzivvah) us, not to drink wine all our days, we, our wives (ishah), our sons, and our daughters;

and not to build houses for our dwelling; and vineyard and field and seed we shall not have;

and we have dwelt in tents, and have listened and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded (tzivvah) us.

But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up against the land, that we said: Come, and let us go to Jerusalem from before the army of the Chaldeans and from before the army of Aram; so we dwell in Jerusalem.

And the word of YHWH came to Jeremiah, saying:

Thus says YHWH of hosts (tzevaot), the God of Israel: Go and say to the man (ish) of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem: Will you not receive instruction to listen to my words? declares YHWH.

The words of Jonadab son of Rechab, which he commanded (tzivvah) his sons, not to drink wine, are established, and they have not drunk until this day, for they listened to the commandment (mitzvah) of their father; but I, I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, and you have not listened to me.

And I sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending, saying: Return now each man (ish) from his evil way, and amend your deeds, and do not go after other gods to serve them (avad), and dwell upon the ground (adamah) which I gave to you and to your fathers; but you have not inclined your ear nor listened to me.

Because the sons of Jonadab son of Rechab have established the commandment (mitzvah) of their father which he commanded (tzivvah) them, but this people have not listened to me;

therefore thus says YHWH, the God of hosts (tzevaot), the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing to Judah and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have spoken against them; because I spoke to them but they did not hear, and I called to them but they did not answer.

And to the house of the Rechabites Jeremiah said: Thus says YHWH of hosts (tzevaot), the God of Israel: Because you listened to the commandment (mitzvah) of Jonadab your father, and kept all his commandments (mitzvah), and did according to all that he commanded (tzivvah) you;

therefore thus says YHWH of hosts (tzevaot), the God of Israel: There will not be cut off from Jonadab son of Rechab a man (ish) standing before me all the days.
