Jeremiah 36

Yeshua Literal Version (YLV)

And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came to Jeremiah from YHWH, saying:

Take for yourself a scroll of a book, and write in it all the words that I have spoken to you concerning Israel and concerning Judah and concerning all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah even until this day.

Perhaps the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I am planning to do to them, so that they may return each man (ish) from his evil way, and I will pardon their iniquity and their sin.

And Jeremiah called Baruch son of Neriah, and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of YHWH which he had spoken to him upon a scroll of a book.

And Jeremiah commanded (tzivvah) Baruch, saying: I am detained, I am not able to go into the house of YHWH;

and you shall go, and read in the scroll which you wrote from my mouth, the words of YHWH, in the ears of the people in the house of YHWH on a day of fasting; and also in the ears of all Judah who come from their cities you shall read them.

Perhaps their supplication will fall before YHWH, and they will return each man (ish) from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that YHWH has spoken against this people.

And Baruch son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded (tzivvah) him, to read in the book the words of YHWH in the house of YHWH.

And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, they proclaimed a fast before YHWH—all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem.

And Baruch read in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of YHWH, in the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the scribe, in the upper court, at the entrance of the New Gate of the house of YHWH, in the ears of all the people.

And Micaiah son of Gemariah, son of Shaphan, heard all the words of YHWH from upon the book,

and he went down to the house of the king, to the chamber of the scribe; and behold, there all the princes were sitting—Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan son of Achbor, and Gemariah son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

And Micaiah declared to them all the words which he had heard when Baruch read in the book in the ears of the people.

And all the princes sent to Baruch—Jehudi son of Nethaniah, son of Shelemiah, son of Cushi—saying: The scroll in which you read in the ears of the people, take it in your hand and come. So Baruch son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand and came to them.

And they said to him: Sit now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read in their ears.

And it came to pass, when they heard all the words, they feared, each man (ish) to his neighbor, and said to Baruch: We will surely tell the king all these words.

And they asked Baruch, saying: Tell us now, how did you write all these words from his mouth?

And Baruch said to them: From his mouth he would proclaim to me all these words, and I, I was writing in the book with ink.

And the princes said to Baruch: Go, hide, you and Jeremiah, and let no man (ish) know where you are.

And they went in to the king, to the court, but the scroll they deposited in the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and they told in the ears of the king all the words.

And the king sent Jehudi to take the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and Jehudi read it in the ears of the king and in the ears of all the princes who stood beside the king.

And the king was sitting in the winter house, in the ninth month, and the brazier was burning before him.

And it came to pass, when Jehudi had read three or four columns, he would cut it with the scribe's knife and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was consumed on the fire that was in the brazier.

And they were not afraid, nor did they tear their garments—the king and all his servants who heard all these words.

And also Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah entreated the king not to burn the scroll, but he did not listen to them.

And the king commanded (tzivvah) Jerahmeel the king's son, and Seraiah son of Azriel, and Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but YHWH hid them.

And the word of YHWH came to Jeremiah, after the king had burned the scroll and the words which Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah, saying:

Return, take for yourself another scroll, and write upon it all the former words that were upon the first scroll, which Jehoiakim king of Judah burned.

And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say: Thus says YHWH: You, you burned this scroll, saying: Why did you write upon it, saying: The king of Babylon will surely come and destroy this land and cause to shabbat from it man (adam) and beast?

Therefore thus says YHWH concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He will not have one sitting upon the throne of David; and his corpse will be cast out to the heat in the day and to the frost in the night.

And I will visit upon him and upon his seed and upon his servants their iniquity; and I will bring upon them and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the man (ish) of Judah all the evil that I have spoken against them, but they did not listen.

And Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch son of Neriah the scribe, and he wrote upon it from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and there were yet added to them many words like these.
