1And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said:
2Can a man be profitable to God, that a wise man is profitable to himself?
3Is it a delight to Shaddai that you are righteous, or gain that you make your ways blameless?
4Is it for your fear of him he reproves you, that he enters with you into judgment (mishpat)?
5Is not your evil great, and there is no end to your iniquities?
6For you take pledges of your brothers for nothing, and strip off the garments of the naked.
7You give no water to the weary to drink, and from the hungry you withhold bread.
8And the man (ish) of arm, his is the land, and the favored of face dwells in it.
9Widows you have sent away empty, and the arms of the orphans are crushed.
10Therefore snares are round about you, and sudden dread terrifies you,
11or darkness, that you do not see, and a flood of waters covers you.
12Is not God in the height of the heavens? And see the head of the stars, how high they are!
13And you say, "What does God know? Can He judge through the thick darkness?
14Clouds are a covering to Him, that He does not see, and He walks about the circle of the heavens."
15Will you keep the way of old, which men of iniquity have trodden?
16Who were snatched away before the time, whose foundation was poured out as a river;
17those who said to God, "Depart from us!" and what could Shaddai do to them?
18Yet He filled their houses with good; and the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19The righteous see and rejoice, and the innocent mocks them:
20"Surely our adversary is cut off, and their abundance the fire has consumed."
21Acquaint yourself now with Him, and be at peace; thereby good comes to you.
22Receive now Torah from His mouth, and set His words in your heart.
23If you return to Shaddai, you will be built up; if you put unrighteousness far from your tents.
24And lay the ore upon the dust (aphar), and among the rocks of the brooks the gold of Ophir.
25And Shaddai will be your ore, and silver of abundance to you.
26For then you will delight yourself upon Shaddai, and lift up your face to God.
27You will entreat Him, and He will hear you, and your vows you will pay.
28And you will decree a thing, and it will be established for you, and upon your ways light will shine.
29When they are brought low, you say, "There is lifting up"; and the lowly of eyes He saves (yasha).
30He delivers the one not innocent, and he is delivered through the cleanness of your hands.
