1And Job answered and said:
2"Even today my complaint is bitter; my hand is become heavy upon my groaning.
3Who will give that I knew where I might find Him, that I might come to His seat!
4I would set in order before Him a judgment (mishpat), and fill my mouth with arguments.
5I would know the words He would answer me, and understand what He would say to me.
6Would He contend with me in the greatness of power? No; surely He would give heed to me.
7There an upright one would reason with Him, and I would be delivered forever from my judge.
8Behold, I go forward, but He is not there; and backward, but I do not perceive Him;
9on the left where He works, but I do not behold Him; He turns to the right, but I do not see Him.
10For He knows the way that is with me; when He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
11My foot has held fast to His step; His way I have kept, and have not turned aside.
12The commandment (mitzvah) of His lips, and I have not departed; more than my own statute (choq) I have treasured up the words of His mouth.
13But He is in one, and who can turn Him back? And what His soul (nephesh) desired, even that He did.
14For He will complete my statute (choq); and many such things are with Him.
15Therefore I am terrified at His presence; I consider, and I am afraid of Him.
16And God has made my heart faint, and Shaddai has terrified me;
17for I was not cut off before the darkness, nor did He cover the thick gloom from my face.
