And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor heard, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,
and to the kings who were on the north, in the hill country and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, and in the regions of Dor on the west,
the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.
And they went out, they and all their camps with them, a people many as the sand that is upon the shore of the sea in multitude, with horse and chariot very many.
And all these kings met together, and they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.
And YHWH said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid because of them, for tomorrow about this time I am giving all of them slain before Israel; you shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire."
And Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them at the waters of Merom suddenly, and they fell upon them.
And YHWH gave them into the hand of Israel, and they smote them and pursued them as far as great Sidon, and as far as Misrephoth-maim, and as far as the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them until they left them none remaining.
And Joshua did to them as YHWH said to him; he hamstrung their horses, and burned their chariots with fire.
And Joshua turned back at that time, and captured Hazor, and its king he smote with the sword; for Hazor before was the head of all those kingdoms.
And they smote every soul (nephesh) that was in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them; there was not left any breath (neshamah); and Hazor he burned with fire.
And all the cities of these kings, and all their kings, Joshua captured, and he smote them with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them, as Moses the servant of YHWH commanded (tzivvah).
Only all the cities that stood on their mound, Israel did not burn them; except Hazor alone, Joshua burned it.
And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took as plunder for themselves; only all the men (adam) they smote with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, they did not leave any breath (neshamah).
As YHWH commanded (tzivvah) Moses His servant, so Moses commanded (tzivvah) Joshua; and so Joshua did; he did not remove a thing from all that YHWH commanded (tzivvah) Moses.
And Joshua took all that land, the hill country, and all the Negev, and all the land of Goshen, and the lowland, and the Arabah, and the hill country of Israel and its lowland;
from Mount Halak that goes up to Seir, even as far as Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under Mount Hermon; and all their kings he captured, and smote them, and put them to death.
Many days Joshua made war with all these kings.
There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, except the Hivite, the inhabitants of Gibeon; they took all in battle.
For it was from YHWH to harden their heart to meet Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that there be no favor for them, but that he might destroy them, as YHWH commanded (tzivvah) Moses.
And Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel; with their cities Joshua utterly destroyed them.
There was not left any Anakim in the land of the children of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod did they remain.
And Joshua took all the land, according to all that YHWH spoke to Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.
