1And it came to pass, the people were as murmurers of evil in the ears of YHWH; and YHWH heard, and his anger was kindled, and the fire of YHWH burned among them, and consumed in the edge of the camp.
2And the people cried to Moses; and Moses prayed to YHWH, and the fire sank down.
3And he called the name of that place Taberah, because the fire of YHWH burned among them.
4And the mixed multitude that was in its midst lusted a lusting; and the sons of Israel also returned and wept, and said, "Who will feed us flesh (basar)?"
5We remember the fish that we ate in Egypt for nothing, the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic.
6But now our soul (nephesh) is dried up; there is nothing at all; only toward the manna are our eyes.
7And the manna was like coriander seed, and its appearance like the appearance of bdellium.
8The people went about, and gathered, and ground it in mills or beat it in the mortar, and boiled it in the pot, and made it into cakes; and its taste was like the taste of the moisture of oil.
9And when the dew fell upon the camp at night, the manna fell upon it.
10And Moses heard the people weeping by their families, every man (ish) at the door of his tent (ohel); and the anger of YHWH was kindled greatly; and in the eyes of Moses it was evil.
11And Moses said to YHWH, "Why have you done evil to your servant? and why have I not found favor in your eyes, to put the burden of all this people upon me?
12Did I conceive all this people? did I beget them, that you should say to me, 'Carry them in your bosom, as the nursing-father carries the suckling,' upon the ground (adamah) which you swore to their fathers?
13From where do I have flesh (basar) to give to all this people? for they weep upon me, saying, 'Give us flesh (basar), that we may eat.'
14I am not able, I alone, to bear all this people, because it is too heavy for me.
15And if you are doing thus to me, kill me, I pray, kill, if I have found favor in your eyes; and let me not look upon my evil."
16And YHWH said to Moses, "Gather to me seventy men (ish) from the elders of Israel, whom you know that they are the elders of the people and its officers; and take them to the tent (ohel) of appointed time (moed), and they shall station themselves there with you.
17And I will come down and speak with you there; and I will take away from the spirit (ruach) which is upon you, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear with you the burden of the people, that you bear it not, you alone.
18And to the people you shall say, 'Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat flesh (basar); for you have wept in the ears of YHWH, saying, "Who will feed us flesh (basar)? for it was good for us in Egypt"; therefore YHWH will give you flesh (basar), and you shall eat.
19You shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days,
20but a month of days, until it comes out from your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you; because you have rejected YHWH who is in your midst, and have wept before him, saying, "Why did we come out from Egypt?"'"
21And Moses said, "Six hundred thousand on foot is the people in whose midst I am; and you have said, 'Flesh (basar) I will give to them, and they shall eat a month of days.'
22Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, and it suffice for them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered for them, and it suffice for them?"
23And YHWH said to Moses, "Is the hand of YHWH shortened? Now you shall see whether my word will happen to you or not."
24And Moses went out and spoke to the people the words of YHWH; and he gathered seventy men (ish) from the elders of the people, and made them stand around the tent (ohel).
25And YHWH came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took away from the spirit (ruach) which was upon him, and gave it to the seventy men (ish), the elders; and it came to pass, when the spirit (ruach) rested upon them, that they prophesied, but they did not continue.
26And two men (ish) remained in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the second Medad; and the spirit (ruach) rested upon them—and they were among those written, but they had not gone out to the tent (ohel)—and they prophesied in the camp.
27And the young man ran and told Moses, and said, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp."
28And Joshua the son of Nun, the minister of Moses from his youth, answered and said, "My lord Moses, restrain them."
29And Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for me? would that all the people of YHWH were prophets, that YHWH would put his spirit (ruach) upon them!"
30And Moses gathered into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
31And a spirit (ruach) journeyed from YHWH and brought over quails from the sea, and let them fall upon the camp, about a day's journey on this side and about a day's journey on that side, around the camp, and about two cubits upon the face of the earth.
32And the people rose up all that day, and all the night, and all the next day, and gathered the quail; he who gathered least gathered ten homers; and they spread them out for themselves, spreading, around the camp.
33The flesh (basar) was still between their teeth, before it was cut off, and the anger of YHWH was kindled against the people, and YHWH struck the people with a very great blow.
34And he called the name of that place Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who lusted.
35From Kibroth-hattaavah the people journeyed to Hazeroth; and they were at Hazeroth.
