1Better is a dry morsel and quietness with it than a house full of sacrifices of strife.
2A prudent servant shall rule over a son who causes shame, and in the midst of brothers he shall share the inheritance.
3The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, but the tester of hearts is YHWH.
4An evildoer gives heed to lips of wickedness; a liar gives ear to a tongue of destruction.
5He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker; he who rejoices at calamity shall not go unpunished.
6The crown of old men is children's children, and the glory of children is their fathers.
7Lips of excellence are not fitting for a fool; how much less are lips of falsehood for a noble.
8The bribe is a stone of grace in the eyes of its owner; to all that he turns he prospers.
9He who covers a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates a close friend.
10A rebuke goes deeper into one who has understanding than a hundred blows into a fool.
11An evil one seeks only rebellion, but a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12Let a bear bereaved of her young meet a man (ish), but not a fool in his folly.
13He who returns evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14The beginning of strife is as one letting out water; so before the quarrel breaks out, abandon it.
15He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous—both of them are an abomination to YHWH.
16Why is this—a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, when there is no heart?
17At all times the friend loves, and a brother is born for adversity.
18A man (adam) lacking heart strikes hands, becoming surety before his neighbor.
19He who loves transgression loves strife; he who raises high his gate seeks destruction.
20The perverse of heart shall not find good, and he who is twisted in his tongue falls into evil.
21He who begets a fool—it is to his grief, and the father of a fool does not rejoice.
22A glad heart does good to healing, but a broken spirit (ruach) dries the bone.
23A bribe from the bosom the wicked man takes, to pervert the paths of judgment (mishpat).
24Wisdom is before the face of him who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool are at the end of the earth.
25A vexation to his father is a foolish son, and a bitterness to her who bore him.
26Also to fine the righteous is not good, nor to strike nobles for uprightness.
27He who restrains his words knows knowledge, and rare of spirit (ruach) is a man (ish) of understanding.
28Even a fool who keeps silent is reckoned wise; he who shuts his lips is discerning.
