1Do not envy men (ish) of evil, and do not desire to be with them.
2For their heart meditates violence, and their lips speak trouble.
3By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;
4and by knowledge the chambers are filled with all precious and pleasant wealth.
5A wise man is in strength, and a man (ish) of knowledge fortifies power.
6For by wise guidance you shall make war for yourself, and deliverance is in the abundance of a counselor.
7Too high for a fool is wisdom; in the gate he does not open his mouth.
8One who plots to do evil—him they will call a master of schemes.
9The scheming of folly is sin, and an abomination to man (adam) is a scoffer.
10If you slacken in the day of distress, narrow is your strength.
11Deliver those taken to death, and those staggering to the slaughter, if you would hold back.
12If you say, "Behold, we did not know this," does not He who weighs hearts discern? And He who guards your soul (nephesh), He knows; and He renders to man (adam) according to his deed.
13Eat, my son, honey, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to your palate.
14So know wisdom for your soul (nephesh); if you have found it, then there is a latter end, and your hope will not be cut off.
15Do not lie in wait, O wicked one, against the dwelling of the righteous; do not destroy his resting place.
16For seven times the righteous falls, and rises again; but the wicked stumble into evil.
17When your enemy falls, do not rejoice; and when he stumbles, let not your heart be glad,
18lest YHWH see it, and it be evil in His eyes, and He turn His anger away from him.
19Do not fret yourself because of evildoers; do not envy the wicked;
20for there will be no latter end for the evil one; the lamp of the wicked will be extinguished.
21Fear YHWH, my son, and the king; with those given to change do not mix yourself;
22for suddenly their calamity will rise, and the ruin of them both—who knows?
23These also are for the wise: to recognize faces in judgment (mishpat) is not good.
24One who says to the wicked, "You are righteous," peoples will curse him, nations will denounce him;
25but for those who rebuke it will be pleasant, and upon them will come a good blessing.
26He kisses the lips who returns upright words.
27Prepare your work outside, and make it ready for yourself in the field; and afterward you shall build your house.
28Do not be a witness without cause against your neighbor, and would you deceive with your lips?
29Do not say, "As he has done to me, so I will do to him; I will render to the man (ish) according to his deed."
30By the field of a sluggard man (ish) I passed, and by the vineyard of a man (adam) lacking heart;
31and behold, it had all grown over with thistles, its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.
32And I gazed—I myself; I set my heart; I saw, I received instruction.
33A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to lie down—
34and your poverty will come like a prowler, and your want like a man (ish) of shield.
