1These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men (ish) of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
2The glory of God is to conceal a matter, and the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
3The heavens for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings—there is no searching out.
4Remove the dross from the silver, and there comes forth a vessel for the refiner.
5Remove the wicked before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6Do not glorify yourself before the king, and do not stand in the place of great men.
7For better is it said to you, "Come up here," than to be put lower before a noble, whom your eyes have seen.
8Do not go forth hastily to contend, lest—what will you do in its latter end—when your neighbor has put you to shame.
9Plead your cause with your neighbor, and do not reveal the secret of another;
10lest he who hears reproach you, and your evil report does not turn back.
11Apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken upon its proper occasions.
12An earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold is a wise reprover upon a hearing ear.
13As the cold of snow in the day of harvest is a faithful messenger to those who send him, and he restores the soul (nephesh) of his masters.
14Clouds and spirit (ruach) without rain is a man (ish) boasting himself in a false gift.
15By length of patience a ruler is persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks a bone.
16Have you found honey? Eat your sufficiency, lest you be filled with it and vomit it.
17Make your foot rare in the house of your neighbor, lest he be sated with you and hate you.
18A maul and a sword and a sharpened arrow is a man (ish) who answers against his neighbor as a false witness.
19A broken tooth and a tottering foot is confidence in a treacherous one in the day of trouble.
20As one taking off a garment on a cold day, as vinegar upon natron, is one who sings songs to an evil heart.
21If the one who hates you is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
22for coals you are heaping upon his head, and YHWH will repay you.
23The spirit (ruach) of the north brings forth rain, and a secret tongue, indignant faces.
24Better to dwell on a corner of a roof than with a contentious woman (ishah) and a house of fellowship.
25As cold waters upon a weary soul (nephesh), so is good news from a far country.
26A trampled spring and a corrupted fountain is a righteous one tottering before the wicked.
27To eat much honey is not good, and the searching out of their own glory is glory.
28A city broken through, without a wall, is a man (ish) who has no rule over his spirit (ruach).
