For the choirmaster. Of David. A psalm. YHWH, you have searched me and you know.
You know my sitting down and my rising up; you understand my thought from afar.
My path and my lying down you have winnowed, and with all my ways you are familiar.
For there is not a word on my tongue, behold, YHWH, you know it all.
Behind and before you have hemmed me in, and you have laid upon me your palm.
Too wonderful is knowledge for me; it is high, I cannot attain to it.
Where shall I go from your spirit (ruach)? And where from your face shall I flee?
If I ascend to the heavens, there you are; and if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there.
If I take up the wings of the dawn, and dwell in the uttermost part of the sea,
even there your hand would lead me, and your right hand would hold me.
And if I say, "Surely darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,"
even the darkness is not dark from you, but the night shines as the day; as the darkness, so the light.
For you have acquired my kidneys; you wove me together in my mother's womb.
I will give you thanks, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are your works, and my soul (nephesh) knows it well.
My frame was not hidden from you, when I was made in secret, woven together in the depths of the earth.
My unformed substance your eyes saw, and upon your book all of them were written — the days that were fashioned, when not one of them yet was.
And to me, how precious are your thoughts, O God! How vast are the sums of them!
If I should count them, they are more than the sand; I awake, and I am still with you.
If only you would slay the wicked, O God; you men (ish) of blood, depart from me—
who speak of you with malice, your enemies who lift up [your name] to vanity.
Do I not hate those who hate you, YHWH? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?
With perfect hatred I hate them; they have become enemies to me.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me, and know my anxious thoughts.
And see if there is any way of grief in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
